'That's mental'– Rangers stat under Barry Ferguson has Andy Halliday sounding the alarm
The Motherwell midfielder reckons his old club have a long way to go after finding themselves two down in a game yet again
Andy Halliday has branded an emerging Rangers goals against stat that's featured regularly of late as MENTAL.
The Ibrox side once again allowed Dundee to race into a two-goal lead at Dens Park in the Saturday evening clash before eventually winning the seven-goal thriller 4-3 after also trailing at one stage in the contest 3-1.
In the last seven games, the Light Blues have found themselves two goals behind in five of those outings. Motherwell midfielder Halliday reckons that seven-game run, which stretches back to the 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren which under former boss Philippe Clement, is 'mental' .
Since taking interim charge, Barry Ferguson has been in the dugout for six matches and FOUR of these have seen Rangers fall two goals behind while Celtic pegged them back from 2-0 up to 2-2 before Hamza Igamane's late winner at Parkhead.
The former Ibrox star mistakenly attributed that defeat to Saints to the tenure Ferguson, but it's a problem that stretches beyond the current boss which he's so far been unable to find the solution for.
Speaking on Open Goal about the stat, Halliday said: "He even said it in his post-match interview. Dundee shouldn't have had the amount of chances they got.
"Scoring three goals. That is seven games he's had at Rangers Barry Ferguson and they've been two goals down in five of them out the seven. That's mental mate."
He added: "Again, it is hard. I think you do need to give them a lot of praise. We've said they've been two goals down in five of the games.
"They've came back in the Kilmarnock game, they've came back in the Dundee game. But I still think they've got a good bit to go."
In Ferguson's first game in charge, he found himself two goals down before a spirited 4-2 comeback win at Rugby Park. Motherwell then raced into a two goal advantage next time out with Rangers unable to turn that one around at Ibrox, losing 2-1 in the end.
Then Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce won 2-0 in Govan in the Europa League last 16 to spark extra-time and penalties before Jack Butland stepped up as the hero in the shootout to earn a crack at Athletic Bilbao after a 3-3 aggregate draw after the 3-1 win away.
Last time out, it was Dundee who found themselves two to the good inside the opening 20 minutes and then 3-1 up before three goals from James Tavernier, Tom Lawrence and Cyriel Dessers in the final 15 minutes secured a comeback win at Dens.
