Martindale says he’s ready to leave Livingston if new owners want rid after takeover as he admits ‘I’m insignificant’

DAVIE MARTINDALE insists he won’t mind if Livingston’s prospective new owners want shot of him.
An overseas consortium is closing in on a deal to take control of the Lions.
Martindale, who has been in charge since 2020, has no idea what that might mean for his future at the club.
The 50-year-old led Livi to their first silverware in eight years with Sunday’s 5-0 hammering of Queen’s Park in the SPFL Trust Trophy final.
He said: “I’m genuinely not bothered about me.
“The group were over and spent three or four days at the club.
“I spoke to them and they’ve been brilliant.
“All I’ve said is concentrate on getting the deal done. The most important thing is investment for the club. I’m insignificant.
“If you said, ‘These boys are going to come in but you won’t have a job’, I’d bite your hand off, walk away and jump into a building site tomorrow morning.”
Livi currently sit third in the Championship.
They are eight points behind leaders Falkirk as they chase an immediate return to the top flight, but play their game in hand tomorrow night at Dunfermline.
Martindale added: “We are currently in a period of exclusivity just now over investment from sporting professionals overseas.
“John Ward (chairman) and John McIlvogue (chief commercial officer) have been working night and day to try to get this done.
“If you want to be up there, challenge in most seasons and secure the jobs of the people at the club, you need outside investment.
“If you look down south, or even up here now, American investors are coming into Scottish football.
“If you’ve aspirations to be at the top of Scottish football — and I mean even top in the Championship — you have to think outside the box. It’s the only way to grow your club.”
