Marc Guehi has insisted he is just 'focused' on playing for Crystal Palace as the England international approaches the final year of his contract.

Guehi was, of course, subject of a number of big-money offers from Newcastle United last summer. However, Newcastle ultimately stopped formally bidding in the final weeks of the window after Crystal Palace's demands for 'superstar money' went beyond the club's limits and beyond what the Magpies felt they should pay given Guehi's contract situation.

Oliver Glasner 'doesn't know' if Guehi will sign a new deal and the Crystal Palace boss admitted that his captain is 'thinking about what is best for his personal career and that is what we have to accept'. Alan Shearer said that it 'wouldn't surprise' him if Newcastle tried to sign Guehi again, but the centre-back is not thinking about the summer just yet.

"My focus is on playing each game that I have for Palace and that's it really," he told reporters. "I have played with some unbelievable players at this football club. That is saying something.

"Give credit to of course the players - we have some unbelievable players and squads - and the manager and the system and the way we play. We understand what we have to do, which makes a massive difference."

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish previously claimed that the Eagles 'wanted to be selling to clubs like Newcastle, who have got great aspirations and have recently been in the Champions League'. However, Parish also stressed that players like Guehi 'have to realise that the club comes first and we have got to do our best to make sure that the club thrives'.

Guehi has since helped Crystal Palace pull well clear of danger - Glasner's side are, in fact, mounting a late-season push for Europe - while the Eagles have also reached the FA Cup semi-finals.
