Birmingham City’s promotion permutations and when they will be crowned League One champions

Birmingham City will win promotion to the Championship with a victory over Peterborough United on Tuesday night – but they won’t be crowned League One champions.

Three points at the Weston Homes Stadium will see Blues up irrespective of what Wycombe Wanderers do at Huddersfield Town.

Anything other than a victory for Wycombe would be enough for Blues to get promoted without winning themselves.

Blues will have to wait a little while longer for the title due to Wrexham’s win over Burton Albion on Saturday.

Wrexham have five games to play and, as things stand, are 11 points behind Blues with the mathematical possibility of catching them. Blues need five more points to guarantee the title.

Should Blues beat Peterborough and Wrexham fail to win their next game at Wigan Athletic on Saturday, the League One title will go to Blues.

Given the extraordinary number of points Blues have already accumulated (92), promotion has been a probability for a while.

Chris Davies and his side will no doubt have their eyes on the League One points record, which currently stands at 103 and the EFL points record of 106.

Four wins from their remaining seven league games would see Blues eclipse Wolves’ League One tally, while five wins would see Reading gazumped.
