Rory Wilson inks bumper Aston Villa deal as ex Rangers prodigy ends contract standoff and mega prediction made
The Scot has caught the eye with some prolific form and is pushing on the door of a first team debut for Unai Emery's side
Prolific Scotland U21 ace Rory Wilson has ended a contract stand-off by committing his future to Aston Villa.
The 19-year-old bagged 46 goals in 52 games last season for Villa at the different age groups after joining from Rangers in a whopping £400,000 deal.
And last month Record Sport revealed that high ranking club officials at the Premier League giants were forced to get involved to fend off strong interest from other top British and European clubs.
Last year it was reported that the teenage sensation had been left in a nightmare scenario having failed to agree new terms with the club as he moved into the final year of his contract, having reportedly turned down various offers of a lucrative five-year-deal.
However he'll now remain in the Midlands, with the club announcing on April 7 that a new deal had been agreed - albeit without giving any details of its length.
Mark Harrison, Villa's academy manager, said: "‘We are delighted to have agreed a new contract with Rory. He has obviously got a proven track record of scoring goals at Academy level and we firmly believe that this will continue at senior level.
“Rory has always been very committed to his development and has shown that consistently throughout his time with us. He has undoubted potential, so we look forward to supporting him into transitioning into a first team player at Aston Villa FC."
Wilson netted an incredible 14 goals in 13 games for Scotland's U17 side and followed that up three in 10 for the U19s. He's still to net his first U21 goal in two caps to date. He signed his first pro deal with Villa on his 17th birthday in January 2023.
Having joined Rangers at the age of eight, he progressed through the academy to earn a crack at B team football in the Lowland League at the age of just 15.
The teenage found himself at the centre of a contract storm over his move south, having signed an amateur contract with Rangers in December 2019.
The move to Aston Villa was classified as an international transfer, with FIFA forced to get involved to set a fee for his move from Ibrox, which was eventually set at a minimum of £350,000.
