Hamza Igamane's Rangers form baffles Ibrox hero as Barry Ferguson left with lingering 'mismanagement' effect
The Morocco international has scored just once in his last 14 matches in all competitions for the Gers
Hamza Igamane was the man of the moment last month when he lashed home the winning goal in Rangers' pulsating 3-2 Old Firm triumph against Celtic at Parkhead.
But the forward drew a blank for the 13th time in his last 14 appearances in all competitions for the Gers in Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Hibernian that consigned interim boss Barry Ferguson to his fifth consecutive loss at Ibrox since he succeeded Philippe Clement at the end of February.
Despite his recent woes, Igamane had demonstrated just why Clement had forked out around £.1.7million to bring him to Govan from AS FAR, rifling 14 goals in 37 matches so far this season, including efforts in the Europa League against Steaua Bucharest, Tottenham and Nice.
That has not only seen him win recognition at senior level for his country, but also reportedly attract the interest of several clubs elsewhere including Everton and Sevilla.
And Rangers hero Derek Ferguson - the current Ibrox boss' older brother - believes that the new man in the dugout is not to blame for Igamane's dip in form and suggests that mismanagement at the end of Clement's tenure in Glasgow is the reason for the striker going off the boil.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: "His recent drop-off in form has been a strange one.
"He’s looked devoid of confidence all of a sudden. He just hasn’t looked the same player as a couple of months ago. You’ve got to factor in that he’s a young guy.
"Has he been managed correctly? I’m not so sure. Maybe Clement could have taken him out for a game or two.
"But there is clearly a player there with great ability.
“You want to keep the guys with his ability, which I’m sure the owners will do, but I’d love to know what the management team make of his situation."
