Cardiff City player ratings as defenders endure shocking night but clear standout emerges

Here is how the Bluebirds rated in the 2-2 draw with Preston North End

Ethan Horvath 4

Needed to do far better for the opener, which was squeezed past him at the near post from a saveable distance. Made a good late stop to deny Ryan Porteous.

Andy Rinomhota 5

One of the better players at the back and kept Robbie Brady quiet. Was forced off through injury in the second half.

Will Fish 4

Started terribly, gifting the ball away twice which resulted in a couple of opportunities, including Will Keane scoring before being flagged offside. Got better, though.

Dimitrios Goutas 3

Just not at it. Bright in for his physicality but struggled. His attempted intervention set Milutin Osmajic up for his first-half strike. Hooked at the break.

Jesper Daland 3

Didn't gel with his centre-back partner and the gaps between them were far too generous. Couldn't deal with Osmajic for the most part and just watched Stefan Thodarson head home the second.

Callum O'Dowda 5

Pretty steady, if not at his electric, free-flowing best. Couldn't pinpoint much that he did wrong throughout the evening. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Sivert Mannsverk 5

Battles hard but his lack of quality or calmness in possession does leave you scratching your head at times. Still so raw.

Calum Chambers 5

Looked a little more lightweight than usual. Couldn't get many passes off and struggled with the high intensity early on. Grew into the game, though.

Cian Ashford 5

A quiet evening for the winger. Had one 30-yard strike whistle wide of the mark before the break then made the wrong decision with his pulled shot across goal later on.

Rubin Colwill 5

Set pieces were poor, but individually he tried to make something happen. Had a vicious strike tipped over by Dai Cornell before the break. Faded afterwards.

Yousef Salech 6

Held the ball up well in general and produced some nice touches to bring others into play but had few chances of his own.

Subs

Will Alves (Goutas 46) 8 (star man) - The undoubted standout. Netted his first senior goal and caused the hosts all sorts of issues.

Alex Robertson (Rinomhota 65) 6 - Was a bit rusty after coming on but then lifted a great cross in for Meite's leveller.

Callum Robinson (Colwill 70) 5 - A quiet outing for the forward on his old patch.

Yakou Meite (Salech 70) 7 - Popped up with the late leveller, volleying home from point-blank range in injury time.

Isaak Davies (Ashford 81) NA
