The England midfielder hit the back of the net from two dead ball situations to give the Gunners an improbable 3-0 lead in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against the Spanish giants.

La Real couldn't believe what they'd seen after Rice stepped up to whip TWO free-kicks beyond Thibaut Courtois.

But Scotland fans noticed just how similar the moment was to when Griffiths struck against England in 2017.

The then-Celtic striker sent Hampden into scenes rarely seen before or since by sticking the ball in the top corner from not one but two free-kicks.

His late brace gave Gordon Strachan's Scots a 2-1 lead at the time, only to be outdone by an even later Harry Kane goal to crush the Tartan Army.

Fast forward nine years and you'd be forgiven for thinking the Arsenal star was watching videos of that very game as a warm-up for this one.

Rice's first strike came in the 58th minute and was in an eerily similar position to Griffith's first at Hampden.

12 minutes later he had done it again.

And that strike was again almost a carbon copy of where Griffiths took HIS second from.

Mikel Merino added a third for Mikel Arteta's side on a memorable night at the Emirates.
