Dundee chief executive John Nelms expects Rangers to try to thrash out a fee for Lyall Cameron because neither side wants to go to a tribunal.

The Light Blues have signed the Dark Blues academy graduate on a pre-contract and he will move to Ibrox in the summer when his contract expires.

A tribunal ordered Rangers to pay around £640,000 with an additional £250,000 of add-ons when they signed Connor Barron from Aberdeen last summer.

Nelms believes Rangers will be keen to try and avoid a repeat of that and will look to deal before midfielder Cameron moves.

He said: “I don’t think they want to go to a tribunal.

“The last tribunal was very well publicised and our lawyers know all the details. So we both have different views probably and neither one of us want to get there, so hopefully we will come to a resolution on that.”

A tribunal only comes into play if the two sides are unable to a agree a fee.

The only positive for Rangers on the compensation side in this deal is that it is likely to be less of a fee than it was for Barron because Dundee ’s academy doesn’t have elite status.

Nelms confirmed there has been initial talks with Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart.

He added: “There has been a small conversation. A very, very preliminary conversation.”
