Fabian Schar admits he is excited about the plans in place at Newcastle United and insisted that the Carabao Cup can be just the start for fans at St James' Park.
The Swiss defender etched his name into club folklore with a rock steady performance against Liverpool in the Wembley final next month and now has his eyes on a unique double. The 33-year-old penned a new contract only last week and feels that he has more titles in him at Newcastle.
When asked if there is much more to come from Eddie Howe's trophy winning Magpies, the former Hoffenheim defender told Chronicle Live: "Yeah, for sure. The last few weeks have been pretty good for us.
"The cup title and the last few results in the Premier League. We know we have to perform every week in the Premier League as it is a difficult league.
"You need every point and hopefully we will keep going."
Schar will be back in the line-up alongside Blyth lad Dan Burn for the Sunday afternoon encounter with Manchester United on Tyneside. Another big win could push Newcastle within touching distance of a Champions League place.
As Schar faced reporters in the mixed zone at Leicester he was asked if Newcastle could even be title contenders next season. To which he replied: "Well, we are in this season, so I don't think about next season. There are plenty of games left, lots of difficult games coming up, it's very tight in the table.
"There is work to do. The scoreline was pretty good at Leicester yes but I think we weren't actually very happy. We gave the ball away too cheaply and quickly. We wanted to set our standards high in the second half.
"Overall it was a great win but we know we can play much better football - and we will have to. Obviously we scored quick first goal and then the second one. In these games you have to be ruthless and we were in the first half. In terms of scoring goals we're doing well."
"We need a lot of points to achieve our aim for the season and there is not one thought about next season. It's about Man United.
"Like every other game in the Premier League it will be tough, we know we play at home and want to have a good result again. Today we can enjoy our win over Leicester and tomorrow focus on the next game."
Schar almost scored a wonder goal at Leicester when his shot from his own half cracked the woodwork before Jacob Murphy scored. The ex-Switzerland defender netted one of his most famous goals in last season's Champions League win over Paris St-Germain and would love another taste of life at Europe's top table next term. He said: "For everyone. We've been there last season.
"We know what we want and what we can achieve and how big the Champions League is. Everyone wants to be there. We want to be at our best level week in, week out and will focus on our game."
