'Pitiful' Gustaf Lagerbielke lampooned as Celtic man suffers transfer audit that flies in face of Twente millions
The Swedish centre back is currently on a season-long loan in the Eredivisie
FC Twente have been urged to pull the plug on a permanent deal for 'pitiful' Celtic misfit Gustaf Lagerbielke.
The Sweden international joined the Dutch club on a season-long loan last summer after making just 10 outings under Brendan Rodgers in his debut campaign at Parkhead following his £3million move from Elfsborg.
However, the Hoops opted not to include a fixed option in the deal that would allow Twente to purchase the player outright at the end of the season, with the club hoping that a bidding war next summer could see them recoup the seven figure sum forked out to bring the defender to Glasgow.
Lagerbielke has gone on to make 29 appearances in total for Twente, where he is a teammate of Rangers flop Sam Lammers.
Back in February, Twente's technical advisor Jan Streuer had revealed that the club would be interested in turning Lagerbielke's loan into a permanent transfer while also insisting that the ball will very much be in Celtic's court.
But reports in the Netherlands claim the Dutch side could be priced out for a move for Lagerbielke and Twente have now been told to scrap plans to try and retain Lagerbielke's services beyond the end of the season.
Outspoken RTV Oost Sport reporter Tijmen van Wissing doesn't believe a permanent deal for the towering centre back is worth pursuing.
He wrote on X: "He was rightly put in the spotlight a bit in December and January.
"Then he did nicely at right central back, but at the moment I see no reason to put any effort into bringing him in.
"He brings you so little in terms of football. It makes you restless, it’s pitiful how he hits balls over the sideline.
"With the current rate, I wouldn’t put any energy into a new contract for Lagerbielke."
