Andre Onana v Nemanja Matic spat escalates as he responds to 'worst Man Utd goalkeeper ever jibe'

The Red Devils stopper has launched another swipe at Lyon star Matic

Andre Onana has escalated his war of words with Nemanja Matic after the Lyon star labelled the Cameroonian as the 'worst' goalkeeper in Manchester United history.

The Red Devils take on Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter final in the north-west of France on Thursday night as they look to make amends for this dismal showing in the Premier League.

In the lead-up to the game, stopper Onana - who has came under flack for his displays in between the posts - boasted that the Ligue 1 outfit would be no match for Ruben Amorim's team, who are 'way better' than their French counterparts.

Serbia star Matic - a Premier League winner with Chelsea who spent five trophy-less years at Old Trafford between 2017 and 2022 - didn't take too kindly to those words and insisted Onana should focus on winning over his doubters before making such boasts.

And taking to social media, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper has continued the spat by reminding Matic that only one of them has lifted silverware with the Red Devils in refence to United's FA Cup triumph last season.

He wrote on X: "would never be disrespectful to another club.

"We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent.

"We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud.

"At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world.

"Some can’t say the same."

Should United triumph over two legs, they would face the winner of the other quarter final tie between Rangers and Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League last four.
