World famous Rangers fan in stunning Steven Gerrard U-turn as he brokers a comeback truce – 'I will forgive him'
Drew McIntyre explained to Gary Neville why his Ibrox return is perfect - if his team return to winning ways
Steven Gerrard will have to earn the trust of a WWE superstar once again if he is to make an epic return to Ibrox.
Hulking Scots wrestler Drew McIntyre revealed he still 'hurts' over the title-winning coach's mid-season departure to Aston Villa in 2021.
The 6ft 5 brawler revealed he was so enamoured with Stevie G that they even exchanged a few messages of gratitude, such was the fine job he was doing in Govan.
And the famous club ambassador admits he would be open to forgiving the Liverpool legend, only if he masterminded another winning Rangers reign.
”Maybe Gerrard is the one to bring back,” McIntyre said in an interview with Gary Neville and Rebecca Lowe on the Overlap US.
"You know, he hurt me. He pained me. He came in, he really turned us around.
”He’s somebody, the same deal, knows what it’s like to play with that passion, play at that level, turned the team around completely, stopped Celtic getting 10 In a Row.
”Sent him a couple of messages back and forth between us on the social media, was so happy to see him there.
McIntyre added: ”Gerrard broke my heart. It would be tough to forgive him but if he does come back and he gets us back in our winning ways then I will give him a mighty hug and I will forgive him.”
Gerrard lasted nine months at Aston Villa before being sacked and replaced with current boss Unai Emery.
The 44-year-old has taken a hiatus from management after a poor stint at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
But the former Rangers gaffer is now among the favourites to take over the Light Blues' hotseat as US investment group 49ers Enterprises close in.
McIntyre may have put his weight behind a Gerrard return, but the wrestler is still batting for interim boss Barry Ferguson in the meantime.
“I wouldn’t want to kick old Barry out this quick,” McIntyre explains.
”I never want anyone to lose their job, but the last gaffer, he shall not be named, I was like God, please get rid of him.
”I’m not going to say he is the one but I was just excited when I heard Barry Ferguson was coming in after such an abysmal (season).
”Somebody that knows what it’s like to play for the jersey, someone who knows what it’s like to truly be a Rangers player.
”Especially if you go against Celtic. That was a good week where we beat Fenerbahce and we beat Celtic in the same week.“
