EVERY football fan dreams of having a kickabout with their team's top stars.

And for one superstar Rangers fan, that dream once came true - although it didn't get off to the best of starts.

James Arthur was winner of The X-Factor back in 2012, propelling him to singing superstardom.

And the Middlesbrough-born chanter, whose main team is Boro, quickly found out that fame can open doors to some incredible opportunities.

One of those came about when Rangers offered the now-37-year-old the chance to join in training, which Arthur has opened up on to FourFourTwo.

He revealed: "My security guard hooked it up.

"My dad is a big Rangers fan and I grew up with him force-feeding me Rangers footage!

"I am half-Scottish, so Rangers are my second team and they invited me for a kickaround when Ally McCoist was manager.

"They planned it as a surprise for me - I'd just rolled off a tour bus, was wearing glasses and Ally megged me straight away! Magic."

It wasn't the only footballing encounter Arthur has had since making it big in music, as he also revealed some mind-blowing invitations he's received.

Asked if any players had had tickets for his shows, he said: "[Wayne] Rooney might have, and Harry Maguire with his wife, she's a huge fan.

"Cristiano Ronaldo asked me to play at his 35th birthday party, which would have been amazing - it was going to be in Italy, when he was at Juventus.

"Then COVID happened, so I was pretty gutted.

"I played at Wojciech Szczesny's wedding, and a Manchester United Christmas party.

"I had a singalong with Ryan Giggs, Rooney, all of that team - Rooney was in the front row, singing his heart out!"
