Each Premier League club's most expensive player as Cole Palmer valued above Bukayo Saka

Liverpool might be running away with the Premier League title but they sit outside the top four in the list of each top-flight club's most expensive player, which has a clear winner

The Premier League is widely regarded as the cream of the crop in world football – and that means it boasts some of the most expensive players on the planet. But there's quite the gulf from the top of the league down to the bottom.

No prizes for guessing that Erling Haaland tops the list of each top-flight club's most expensive player for Manchester City. The 10-year contract he signed earlier this year gives him a potentially world-record transfer value.

The list, compiled by the CIES Football Observatory, takes into account how long a player is tied down for. With Haaland set to stay at the Etihad until 2034, they price him in the region of £188million-£239m – which could rival Neymar's £200m move to PSG in 2017 if he were to leave.

Chelsea claim second spot with Cole Palmer, whose contract is only a year shorter than Haaland's. His estimated value is between £95m and £120m, which beats out Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal's star man is only contracted at the Emirates until 2027, and that therefore factors into his £84m-£106m valuation. Champions League challengers Aston Villa also make the top four of this list with Morgan Rogers at £74m-£94m.

Liverpool are fifth, but perhaps not with the player you'd expect. With Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold's contracts all expiring, their most expensive player is Ryan Gravenberch (£71m-£90m).

While Newcastle United have reportedly slapped a £150m price tag on Alexander Isak, CIES think between £70m and £89m is a more realistic sum. Contrastingly, Rasmus Hojlund (£62m-£79m) follows in seventh, despite Manchester United looking unlikely to recoup a fair chunk of their £72m outlay on the struggling striker.

In another surprise, Bournemouth are eighth with Ilya Zabarnyi. The Ukrainian's centre-back partner Dean Huijsen has grabbed the headlines this season, but the Spaniard's £50m release clause is topped by his counterpart's £52m-£67m valuation, having only extended his stay on the south coast last summer.

Brighton's Carlos Baleba (£51m-£64m) is ninth with Brennan Johnson (£50m-£63m) of Tottenham rounding out the top 10. Further noteworthy inclusions are Jarrad Branthwaite down in 15th and Marc Guehi in 18th.

Both England internationals were highly sought-after last summer, with Everton not settling for less than £70m for Branthwaite and Palace demanding similar for Guehi. But CIES estimate Branthwaite to be worth half of that figure, with Guehi below the £30m mark with the final year of his deal approaching.
