Liverpool dressing room admission about winning title after Jurgen Klopp had to break promise

As Liverpool close in on the Premier League title, the memory of Jurgen Klopp's unfulfilled wish is still at the forefront of the players' minds

Liverpool ace Alexis Mac Allister has said the team's veteran players are yearning for an open-top Premier League title bus parade - something that eluded them under Jurgen Klopp. With Arne Slot at the helm, the squad is on the brink of claiming the top spot.

The Reds suffered their second Premier League defeat of the campaign when they lost 3-2 away to Fulham, but Everton's 1-1 draw with second-placed Arsenal ensured their lead only decreased by a point. Liverpool only need 11 points to wrap up the Premier League and could win it even earlier if Mikel Arteta's side trip up again.

Slot has been keeping his players grounded, stressing that the mission is far from complete and urging them to maintain their drive. However, the lingering memory of their 2020 Premier League victory, celebrated in an empty stadium due to COVID-19 restrictions, remains vivid for the stars who played under Klopp.

The German tactician had firmly insisted that the club would organise an open-top bus parade once it was permissible. But as life normalised and one season rolled into another, Manchester City had reclaimed the championship by the time any celebration could happen, leaving Liverpool without their moment of public jubilation.

Reflecting on this, Mac Allister told Telemundo Deportes: "We have talked about it with players who have been in the team for longer and lived that. That would be a big difference compared to that year.

"They all say that they couldn't enjoy it as they would have liked due to the pandemic. Hopefully, we can win it this year and celebrate it with our people.

"That's the main thing. When Argentina won the World Cup, the best part was going back home with the trophy to celebrate with the fans.

"We hope to do the same with Liverpool fans. But we are still far from that. There are many difficult games ahead, so we need to keep working."

After the 2020 title win, Klopp told fans: "Thank you very much, we should all together celebrate at home, drink and celebrate. When this bull**** virus is gone, we will celebrate together and have a party!"

Slot is now at the helm, but Klopp hinted he'd join in any potential title celebrations. When asked if he would like to go to a title bus parade in Liverpool, Slot said: "Yes. The plan is (to be in Liverpool) but not on the bus. That's the idea to be honest, but we will see.

"I think I will be there for the last game. I didn't want to go earlier to be honest because I didn't want to jinx it. So I go there when it's decided."

The Reds' remaining fixtures include hosting West Ham on Sunday, followed by a trip to Leicester on April 20. A tough run-in awaits, featuring games against Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Brighton, before the season concludes with a match against Crystal Palace.
