Chris Sutton blasts 'pathetic' Rangers celebrations in Aberdeen late show as Kris Boyd instantly bites back
Celtic hero Sutton was far from impressed with Gers' celebrations after they managed to salvage a late point against Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday
Chris Sutton has blasted Rangers' celebrations after salvaging a last-gasp point against Aberdeen at Pittodrie as 'pathetic' – and he believes it is an indictment of where the club is currently at.
Despite trailing 2-0 to the Dons at half-time with 10 men after Ross McCausland was sent off for two bookable offences, the Light Blues bit down on the gumshield to force a leveller right at the death, with Ianis Hagi curling home a delightful effort after fellow sub Hamza Igamane had given them a lifeline.
That point has denied city rivals Celtic being crowned as Premiership champions for the fourth season on the spin, with Brendan Rodgers' side now having to wait until after the split to deliver the final blow to the Gers.
Barry Ferguson's team will now looking to build on their comeback by pulling off another huge result when they travel to the Basque region to face Athletic Bilbao in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final.
But Sutton wasn't having any of the joyous celebrations to Hagi's leveller prompting Ibrox legend Kris Boyd to defend his old team's actions.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Hoops hero Sutton said: "Important in what respect? They have drawn the game.
"We can sit here and skirt round it and say 'the title isn't over', but it's absolutely over.
"Celebrating that goal like that was desperate stuff and tells you where Rangers are at. It's just pathetic!"
Ibrox hero Boyd retorted: "You're just raging because you can't get down for a party!
"Why? You are 2-0 down away from home. Barry's not going to be happy with the point but will be with the circumstances of coming back from 2-0 down with 10 men with a last minute equaliser.
Sutton got the last laugh however, quipping. "How low is the bar?"
