Bruno Guimaraes taunts Bruno Fernandes with four-word message after scoring against Man Utd
The Newcastle captain was clearly eager to get his message across after sprinting to the corner flag to celebrate his goal against Manchester United at St James' Park
Bruno Guimaraes sent a not-so-subtle message to Bruno Fernandes after scoring Newcastle’s fourth goal against Manchester United on Sunday. The Newcastle captain finished calmly past Altay Bayindir after the United goalkeeper couldn’t clear Joelinton with his attempted pass and he celebrated passionately.
The last goal put the icing on the cake of Newcastle’s emphatic second-half performance in their 4-1 victory at St James’ Park. And Guimaraes wasn’t shy to make his feelings heard, repeatedly shouting “I am the Bruno” while pointing to his chest and the name on the back of his shirt before kissing the badge.
The Brazilian midfielder has become a firm favourite among Magpies fans and wrote his name into the club’s history books by lifting the Carabao Cup last month. His goal condemned United to a 14th defeat of the season in the Premier League and Guimaraes’ opposite number was substituted shortly after the final goal.
Fernandes was taken off late on as Ruben Amorim cut his losses ahead of Thursday’s all-important Europa League tie against Lyon, but he was still visibly frustrated on the bench. The United captain could be seen with his head in his hands and waving his arms around as he watched the closing stages.

I know how tough it is to represent this club. They want so much to give to the club, to win because they know how much they will be remembered if they win something with this club.”
He added: "There's not much to assess, we lost the game. In the first half we did good, in the second half we couldn't keep up the way we wanted to play.
"We know that it's been a tough season, nothing to add to that. Our position in the table is not where this club belongs, but unfortunately we are not getting the results. We need to look forward as we have a big game coming up, we need to clear our heads and go for it.”
In contrast, it was a huge win for Newcastle in the race for a Champions League place and there was extra motivation, with manager Eddie Howe in hospital and unable to take charge. “When we went onto the pitch we said we were going to play for him,” Guimaraes told Sky Sports.
“He has been unbelievable for us and we missed him on the training ground this week. We are hopeful that this win will give him a bit of happiness and we are hopeful to see him back for the next game.”
On social media, Guimaraes added: “This team, these fans, and this stadium! Three very important points and we keep going in pursuit of our goals. One game at a time, always. Howay the boys. Thank you, Jesus, for everything you do in my life.”
