Morgan Rogers sent huge message as Aston Villa prepare for pivotal Champions League clash
Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as 'best young player in the Premier League' told where his future lies
Morgan Rogers has been told where his future lies regardless of the result of Aston Villa’s huge Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain this evening.
Villa go into the second leg of their quarter-final tie against the French champions trailing 3-1 and tipped to go out of the competition.
Rogers, the former Manchester City man Villa recruited for a bargain £8m from Middlesbrough in the 2024 winter transfer window, scored their goal in Paris last week and has now been paid two huge compliments ahead of the PSG return (8pm kick-off).
Chris Sutton, the former Blackburn, Celtic and, albeit briefly, Villa striker, believes Rogers is “arguably the best young player in the Premier League this season”, while former Lions goalkeeper David James has named him as the club’s player of the season.
And both men are united in their belief that Rogers, who has won four England caps since joining Villa, needs to stay at the club regardless of tonight’s result and qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Sutton told gaming website BestBettingSites.co.uk: “At this moment in time, I think Morgan Rogers would be better off staying at Villa.
“He's clearly developing well under Unai Emery. I think he's arguably the best young player in the Premier League this season. Therefore, when he does leave, he needs to leave at the right time.
“Villa have progressed brilliantly under Emery, so if I was him I'd stay put at the moment and carry on developing.”
James admired Rogers' ability to take everything in his stride, adding: “For a young player who's been sort of thrown into the spotlight this season, with England call-ups and everything like that, he’s been fantastic - my player of the season.”
James told gaming website Prime Casino: “The performances of Rogers have helped carry the Villa team into a position in the modern era where they haven't been before and look comfortable.
"I wouldn't say new territories because they're European champions historically.
“But you're looking at one of the best seasons for the likes of Rogers in his lifetime at Aston Villa. We're talking a long time when Villa haven't had this kind of success, so why not be part of it?
“If you're happy at home, happy at work, then why would you want to change that?”
Rogers has scored eight goals in 31 Premier League games this season while also chipping in with four more in 11 Champions League appearances to become one of Emery's key men for Villa.
