Gio Reyna a Rangers 'transfer target' as Borussia Dortmund star could follow in footsteps of Ibrox hero dad
The USA star is only a bit part player at Dortmund and could reportedly move on this summer - with Gers among a number of teams interested
Borussia Dortmund star Gio Reyna is a summer transfer target for Rangers - according to a report.
The 22-year-old burst onto the scene with the Bundesliga giants in 2020 and was a part of the team that lifted the DFB Pokal in 2021.
But injuries and a lack of form have restricted him to just 37 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund in the last two seasons.
Reyna joined up with Nottingham Forest on loan in the second half of last season but made just 10 outings, only two of which came from the start.
The attacking midfielder has however racked up 38 caps for the USA national team, and helped them win the CONCAF Nations League title in 2023/24.
And MLS Transfers now claim that the midfielder could follow in his father's footsteps by making the move to Ibrox.
Claudio Reyna spent two years with Gers between 1999 and 2001 and was a big hit, scoring 10 goals in 94 matches as Dick Advocaat's side won a league and Scottish Cup double in his first season before moving onto Sunderland in a £4million deal.
The report claims that Reyna is keen to leave Dortmund this summer and despite reported interest from clubs in the Bundesliga, would be open to a move elsewhere.
They add that Rangers will face competition from MLS outfit LAFC - who include France World Cup winners Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud amongst their ranks - to secure the USA international's signature.
Reyna - who has scored eight goals in 32 caps for his country - is under contract at Signal Iduna Park until the summer of 2026.
