Internazionale 2-2 Bayern Munich: UEFA Champions League result as Inter go through 4-3 on aggregate

A booming header from Benjamin Pavard, the goal his first for Inter, just about sent the Italian champions into the last four. In a terrific match – and tie – they had just too much for Bayern, who will feel that, had they Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala available, they would be the ones moving on.

There was a tremendous tempo about the match from the start, though few chances in a nevertheless exciting first half. Then, on 52 minutes, a typical finish from Harry Kane, conjuring a yard and swiping home, drew the German side level.

But Inter responded with great vengeance and furious anger, a mugger's strike from Lautaro Martinez followed three minutes later by Pavard's header from a corner.

While Eric Dier found a lifeline on 76, there was always the sense that Simone Inzaghi's side would find a way to win. And, in a non-vintage season, they will fancy their chances of continuing to do so.

They also know that, in a non-vintage season, this is a really good chance for them – the best they might get in their careers.

They're not there yet, though injuries really hurt them. They're not a force of nature in the same way Inter are, and though it was tight, the better side won.

But Bayern need bodies in the box – they'll be fine getting the ball forward, they need to create a bit of chaos once they get it there. And, as I type, Guerreiro slings over a hopeful cross, there's only Kane in the box, and Inter clear.

I mean Interr might see them out, but we've probably got 10 minutes of attack against defence.
