Liverpool could be in line for a major squad revamp when the summer transfer window opens in a couple of months time. It remains to be seen, though, what areas of the squad will be deemed priority areas in need of reinforcements.

When it comes to midfield, there have not been many rumours linking Liverpool with new signings. It was just under two years ago that the Reds signed Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo in the same transfer window.

All four players have played vital roles in helping Liverpool go to within six points of being crowned Premier League champions this season. Whether or not the midfield will be deemed an area of the squad that the Reds will look for further new signings this summer, though, remains to be seen.

One player who has been linked with Liverpool at various times this season is Xavi Simons. The RB Leipzig star completed a permanent move to the Bundesliga club in January after initially signing on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

The fee paid by Leipzig to PSG was reported to be worth around €50million (£43million), with the possibility of add-ons. Simons typically plays in a No.10 role, which has been filled by Szoboszlai more often than not this term, and the signing of the Netherlands international would add greater competition to the position.

There have also been rumours centred around Mac Allister's future in recent days, with tentative speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Real Madrid. The Argentina international's father recently dismissed the idea of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu happening in the near future.

Mac Allister has been one of the first names on the team sheet in the midfield for Liverpool this season. The World Cup winner has regularly started alongside Gravenberch in the middle of the park, most recently also providing the assist for Virgil van Dijk's winning goal against West Ham at the weekend from a corner.

Arne Slot already has other midfield options at his disposal, too.

Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott have proved their worth this term, while it remains to be seen if Tyler Morton has a long-term future. Stefan Bajcetic, who is currently on loan at Las Palmas, could also have a role to play in Slot's midfield at Liverpool next season.
