Virgil van Dijk makes demand to Liverpool fans for remainder of Premier League season
Virgil van Dijk has chosen to extend his contract at Liverpool and now wants to see the club's fans wear red to their three remaining Premier League games at Anfield
Virgil van Dijk has called on every Liverpool supporter who heads to Anfield to wear red. The Dutchman has just signed a new contract with the club and wants to see a "red Anfield" in the final weeks of the season.
The Merseysiders are closing in on their second Premier League title with Arne Slot close to celebrating success in his debut season. But in recent weeks the amount of fans attending home games, but not wearing red, has become a talking point.
Van Dijk is among those who will soon land a second Premier League title, barring an almighty slip up. He was present back in 2020 and has now committed himself to the club for the next two years and wants to see the home fans decked out in red for the remaining games.
Liverpool still have to play Tottenham and Arsenal at home before finishing the season against Crystal Palace at Anfield with Van Dijk hoping for a lengthy celebration following a season that has surpassed all expectations. Few tipped the Reds to land the title this term but they could end up as champions with a double-digit cushion.
He said: "I don't like to speak too much about the future, like I said, like you already noticed, but I would just encourage everyone that comes to Anfield for the remaining games of the season to wear red, come in red or come with all red, make it a red Anfield.

Make as much noise as you can, we have a job still to do, but when we do it we have all the right to celebrate it. For however long and as many days, weeks as we want because we should. Because it is hard work, it will be amazing."
Van Dijk's decision to stay put comes the week after Mohamed Salah too opted to remain with Liverpool. The pair's future had dominated headlines for much of the season but they've chosen to remain with both players proving that they're still very much at their peaks.
The Reds skipper said: "There wasn't any doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I'm one of Liverpool. Someone called me the other day an adopted Scouser - I'm really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling. It's a proud feeling, it's a feeling of joy. It's just incredible. The journey I've had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I'm so happy."
Van Dijk has been with the club since joining for £75million from Southampton in January 2018. His exit would've left a huge hole in the team's backline with the Dutchman their defensive leader. He's remained a stalwart with managers changing the man he plays with.
One of the regular members in his back four, Trent Alexander-Arnold, does look set to move on with his contract expiring in the summer amid long-standing interest from Real Madrid.
