Rio Ferdinand joked he would run onto the pitch if Bruno Fernandes had scored from an "exceptional" volley.

Manchester United were running riot a Old Trafford with French giants Lyon struggling to find an answer for Ruben Amorim's side. Fernandes, who was on the last line of defence, was picked out by a 50-yard ball from inside the Red Devils' own half.

With one glance over his shoulder, Fernandes caught the ball on the volley and rattled the Lyon crossbar. Speaking on TNT Sports, Rio Ferdinand joked: "If that had gone in I would have been on the pitch."

"Bruno Fernandes is going to get one tonight with the way he's playing," Paul Robinson said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"The earlier strike was exceptional, and that was brilliant as well. He looks up for it tonight the Manchester United captain."

"The audacity from Bruno Fernandes to attempt this," a second posted.

And another added: "If you can’t appreciate how good Bruno Fernandes is at football then it really isn’t the game for you…Top tier!"

Dalot, himself, had an exceptional game as he doubled the Red Devils lead to send them two goals clear on aggregate.

While a third posted: "Dalot has been playing very well for weeks now. Been a lot more aggressive offensively!"
