Leny Yoro 'does a Phil Jones' as Man Utd fans applaud 'generational talent'
Manchester United fans have praised Leny Yoro as he channeled his inner Phil Jones when risking it all against Lyon in the Europa League
Manchester United fans have praised Leny Yoro as he risked it all to keep the Red Devils ahead.
Ruben Amorim's side had been two goals to the good and cruising into the Europa League semi-finals until Corentin Tolisso powered the ball past Andre Onana.
And suddenly United had their backs against the wall as the French side's confidence grew and grew with each passing second. However, Yoro would earn the applause of the United faithful with a brilliant piece of defending.
The Frenchman, who had been put on the turf, dived towards the ball to block a shot with his head.
"Leny Yoro this performance won’t go unnoticed," one fan posted. While a second said: "Leny Yoro perfectly sums up what a United player should be..."
And another added: "Yoro, what a signing and the sky is really the limit with his ability!"
However, others compared the passage of play to Phil Jones' infamous block. When stumbling to the ground, Jones had managed to use his head to stop Arsenal's Olivier Giroud generate a goal-scoring opportunity.
"Great to see Leny Yoro giving us his best Phil Jones impression," one fan joked. As a second said: "Man United defenders tackling with their head? It's just in their DNA..."
"Yoro's been watching the Phil Jones art of defending. Love the commitment," a third said alongside a video of Jones. While a fourth commented: "Ridiculous challenge by Yoro. Blocked the shot point-blank with his head!... Phil Jones-style!"
And another added: "Prime Phil Jones that!"
However, it was all in vein as a couple of minutes later Nicolás Tagliafico pushed the ball over the line to send the game in extra-time.
