Man United loanee Jadon Sancho sends three-word Chelsea message after Conference League win
Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho played in the Conference League for Chelsea on Thursday
Jadon Sancho has issued a three-word message after helping Chelsea reach the Conference League semi-final. While his parent club Manchester United were in action against Lyon, Sancho was playing for the Blues in Europe's third-tier competition.
Enzo Maresca's side entertained Legia Warsaw with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg. Although Legia gave themselves a glimmer of hope as they took the lead on the night through Tomas Pekhart, Marc Cucurella equalised to restore Chelsea's three-goal advantage on aggregate.
Steve Kapuadi put Legia back in front in the second half but it was too little too late to rescue the tie and Chelsea went through 4-2 on aggregate. The Blues now face Djurgardens IF in the semi-final, with the first leg taking place in Sweden on Thursday, May 1 and the second leg at Stamford Bridge a week later.
Sancho started for Chelsea against Legia and assisted Cucurella's goal. The on loan United forward created some room inside the box and pulled the ball back to Cucurella to fire home from close-range. Sancho now has three goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances since joining the Blues from United last summer.
Issuing a message following Chelsea's progression to the semi-final, Sancho said on Instagram: "Semifinals next! @chelseafc [flexed bicep emoji, A button emoji]."
Sancho's Instagram post came a matter of minutes after United sparked a dramatic late comeback to beat Lyon in the Europa League. Ruben Amorim's side were 4-2 down on the night and 6-4 behind on aggregate when Alexandre Lacazette scored for Lyon in the 109th minute.
However United sparked a dramatic late fightback. Bruno Fernandes halved the deficit from the penalty spot in the 114th minute, causing hope to reignite around Old Trafford.
Six minutes later, Kobbie Mainoo equalised for United. The 20-year-old, who had replaced Rasmus Hojlund up front, kept his composure inside the box to put his team back level.
There was still time for United to win it. Maguire ventured forward from the back to head home Casemiro's cross and spark wild scenes, as Amorim's side somehow found a dramatic winner.
Assessing whether it was the best win Amorim has had as a manager, he replied: "It is hard to say. In here and the sound of the last two goals were amazing, that is something we can keep for future, it was a good feeling but, in the end of the game, [if] you go to semi-finals, you need to win it.
"If you go to the semi-finals and you don't win it, it is the same feeling. We need to focus on next stage and try to win competition."
