Manchester United stormed into the Europa League semi-finals following a nail-biting victory over Lyon on Thursday night.

Harry Maguire's last-gasp header in extra time tipped the scales in United's favour in a nine-goal spectacle at Old Trafford, keeping their season's hopes alive. United are now set to face Athletic Bilbao in the competition's semi-finals, with dreams of lifting the trophy and securing a spot in next season's Champions League.

Despite languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, Ruben Amorim's squad still have all to play for, thanks to Maguire's heroics. After a day of recovery, they'll be setting their sights on Sunday afternoon's home clash against Wolves, reports the Mirror.

However, Amorim has made no secret that his focus is firmly on the Europa League as they hunt down that crucial European spot for the upcoming season. The club also has one eye on the summer transfer window, offering Amorim an opportunity to mould his squad to his liking. Here's the latest scoop on United.

Rashford's future

Marcus Rashford is having a ball at Aston Villa on loan, and Newcastle and England legend Alan Shearer reckons he'd be gobsmacked if he made a comeback to his home turf come summer.

Despite United's attack line looking thin after loaning out Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, the BBC pundit doesn't see a U-turn on the cards.

"I'd be astonished if there's a career for him at Manchester United, not while Amorim's there," Shearer declared on The Rest is Football podcast.

"He's made it clear he doesn't want him. Manchester United are in the mire in the Premier League and yet he thinks to get him out of the club is the best answer. There's no way he's going back there while Amorim's there."

Gary Lineker chimed in: "He will want to prove a point, not just to Manchester United, not necessarily to the fans, but also to himself, because he's had a bit of stick.

"He's had a real issue with the two most recent coaches at Manchester United. Now he's gone off."

United are reportedly preparing a £51million transfer for Inter Milan defender Yann Bisseck at the end of the season.

The Red Devils now play three at the back under Amorim and seemingly want to make another centre-back one of their top targets this coming transfer window.

The club brought in both rising French star Leny Yoro and Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt last summer, but clearly need more reinforcements in that position.

And according to a report from Fichajes, Inter defender Bisseck is one of United’s top targets for that area of their squad.

The German international, 24, who made his name at FC Koln in his homeland before a spell in the Netherlands with Aarhus Gymnastikforening, has had a strong season for the Serie A giants.
