Why Luke Shaw is not in the Manchester United squad vs Wolves
Luke Shaw has not started for Man United in 14 months and is not in the squad against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Luke Shaw has been rested against Wolves after coming on in Manchester United's Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon on Thursday night.
Shaw, who has not started a club game since February 18, 2024, replaced Noussair Mazraoui at half-time in midweek and played 75 minutes as the game went to extra time.
United coach Ruben Amorim had planned to send on Victor Lindelof for Mazraoui, who had to leave Old Trafford due to a personal matter. Lindelof then had to halt his warm-up and leave the stadium due to a separate personal issue.
Amorim said United had planned for Shaw to only play 30 minutes in his second appearance back after a hamstring problem. Shaw conceded a penalty in the second half of extra time against Lyon and was booked.
Shaw has made five substitute appearances this season, having missed seven months of the campaign due to calf and hamstring injuries. The 29-year-old is under contract at United until 2027.
Second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has also been omitted from the matchday squad at the expense of the 39-year-old Tom Heaton. United sources say Bayindir, who started at Newcastle last week, suffered a small issue in training and has been rested as a precaution.
Amorim has made five changes after the epic 5-4 victory over Lyon three days ago. United do not play again until the trek to Bournemouth next Sunday.
