Marcus Rashford took to social media to send a message to Callum Wilson following Newcastle United's 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Unai Emery's side ended Newcastle's four-match unbeaten streak, with Fabian Schar scoring the visitors' only goal.

Ollie Watkins opened the scoring within the first minute, while Ian Maatsen, Amadou Onana, and an own goal from Dan Burn all added to the scoreline in the second half.

The Magpies remain third in the Premier League and await Nottingham Forest's game at Tottenham Hotspur on Easter Monday.

A win for Forest in north London would see them leapfrog Newcastle into third and sit a point clear.

Despite the result, Wilson, who came on as a second-half substitute for Alexander Isak, shared a friendly catch-up with Rashford. The pair were seen hugging and smiling together.

They have shared a dressing room together on the international stage.

Taking to Instagram, Rashford posted a picture hugging Wilson along with the caption: "Good to see you my bro."

Wilson has started just one Premier League game this season after suffering a number of injuries.

His future beyond the summer is unclear with his contract coming to an end in June.

Although Eddie Howe would like to extend the striker's stay at St James' Park, his future may depend on whether the Magpies qualify for Europe or not.

"He is a goalscorer, he's strong, quick, physical, he understands everything tactically," Howe previously said.

"The biggest thing is just getting some momentum in his game so he can play enough minutes to rediscover his rhythm. That's what he needs which is difficult to do when Callum is fit.

"It's difficult for us to get players fit in the team. They have to get fit and then execute their skills. It'a a delicate balance but Callum has every motivation to do well and I'd back him to do so."
