Tonight's Cardiff City news as Ramsey brings in new coach and Salech makes future admission
The latest Bluebirds news from Cardiff City Stadium
Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, April 22.
Another new coach brought in
Chris Gunter, Joe Ralls, Matt Bloxham and Tom Hutton were all named on Aaron Ramsey's coaching ticket on Saturday – but there was a familiar face out there to help take the Bluebirds' warm-up yesterday.
Craig Bellamy's assistant coach with Wales, Ryland Morgans, has also come from the FAW's setup, along with the national team's under-19s boss Gunter to try to help Ramsey steer the Bluebirds to safety. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community.
Morgans has an impressive resume. He has held roles at Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Everton, Swansea, Fulham, Luton, CSKA Moscow, the China FA and was assistant coach of the Ivory Coast national team.
The 48-year-old was the FAW's head of performance for a number of years, taking in the Euro 2016 summer. He is a Pro Licence holder and has a PhD in football science from Cardiff Met.
Ramsey was effusive in his praise of the FAW after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Oxford, saying: "I spoke to Bellers (Craig Bellamy) quite a bit. He’s helped me out quite a lot in that 24, 48 hours.
"The FAW have been brilliant, and the staff there. Very supportive and I’m thankful for that. That definitely helped me settle a bit, it's completely different being out there."
Salech: I hope I can stay for a long time
Yousef Salech has been one of the very few positives at Cardiff over the last few months.
The striker has been fantastic since coming in from Sirius in January, netting seven goals in all competitions, the most recent of which was the opener in the 1-1 draw with Oxford.
Cardiff now have slim hopes of surviving, although all is not lost quite yet. You can read more about the permutations of the last two rounds of fixtures here.
Fans will doubtless worry that, given his excellent form and general all-round play, Championship clubs might come knocking if Cardiff do face the drop. However, the 23-year-old insists he sees a long-term future with the Bluebirds.
“My position as striker means my job is to score goals and help the team” Salech said after the match. “It was nice to score again today.
"The feeling was amazing in front of our fans who were so passionate today. The feeling was we were going to go on to win this game and build from there. But as a striker, your job is to work hard for the team and to be a part of the pressing and to keep the ball, so I try to do my part in all aspects of the game today.
“I’m enjoying my time here and hope I can be here for a long time. I’ve enjoyed the club, the fans, the stadium, the city, everything around it. Hopefully we can first and foremost stay in the league and build from there for next season."
Ramsey to meet old Arsenal pal Wilshere
Former Arsenal midfielders Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey will turn from friends to foes on the final day of the season as they take their places on the touchline as interim managers of Norwich and Cardiff respectively.
Ramsey was given the task of guiding the Blues away from the relegation zone after Omer Riza was dismissed at the weekend. Ramsey nearly had an ideal start in their battle to avoid falling into League One, but a spectacular goal from Cameron Brannagan hindered their survival chances.
This morning, another managerial dismissal occurred in the Championship when Norwich head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup was let go at Carrow Road.
This decision followed a 3-1 loss at the Den against Millwall, which extended their winless streak to five games, including three consecutive losses, and left the Canaries struggling in the lower half of the table.
Consequently, Wilshere has been appointed as the temporary manager and been given the responsibility of guiding them through their last two Championship matches.
This will be the first senior role for the 33-year-old, who resigned as Arsenal under-18s manager to become a first-team coach in Norfolk. His first match in charge will be against Middlesbrough next Saturday before ending the season at home against Ramsey's Cardiff.
West Brom, meanwhile, Cardiff's next opponents, have sacked Tony Mowbray, meaning Ramsey will face two fellow interim managers in his final two matches. James Morrison will take charge of the Baggies on Saturday. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.
