Ally McCoist throws spanner in Celtic works as he puts Brendan Rodgers in the Tottenham next manager mix
The Rangers legend believes Rodgers would certainly be in the frame to replace the Aussie for a second time if he departs Spurs
Ally McCoist reckons Brendan Rodgers could be in the running to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham if the Aussie does leave this summer.
Reports emerged on Tuesday Postecoglou is set to leave the North London club whether he wins the Europa League or not, following a dismal domestic season that sees Spurs sitting 18th in the Premier League table after 18 defeats in a wretched campaign.
Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola, Fulham boss Marco Silva and newly promoted Burnley's Scott Parker haver all been mentioned as possible replacements. Mauricio Pochettino is another name in the frame for a stunning return.
But McCoist wouldn't be shocked if Daniel Levy tried to raid Celtic again to tempt Rodgers back down south.
The Irishman has a year left on his contract and has insisted that he will remain in charge for his final year at least and hasn't ruled out penning an extension.
However, a longer term stay may hinge on continued transfer backing from the Parkhead board ahead of another Champions League campaign, with a playoff round to negotiate in order to qualify for the league phase next season.
Rodgers is on the brink of clinching another Premiership title at Celtic will be heavy favourites to complete another Treble by beating Aberdeen in next month's Scottish Cup Final.
That would make him the first boss to claim a hat-trick of domestic clean sweeps and leave little left to achieve on the home front in charge of the Hoops.
McCoist: "I tell you who might suit them - what about Brendan at Tottenham?"
Alan Brazil: "There you go, there's another one. Good shout. If he thinks that's it after doing the Treble, we've progressed in Europe, now it's time to move on. Maybe"
McCoist: "I'm not sure you've progressed in Europe right enough. You think so?"
Brazil: "Yeah, in the big one. The big one. I just think you could be right. Brendan could move there. He nearly won it with Liverpool didn't he?"
McCoist: "Yeah, I mean he really did."
Brazil: "So if you're looking at pedigree. But then would Spurs then say they took a Celtic manager and it didn't work?"
McCoist: "I know what you mean but Brendan has previous, doesn't he? He's done exceptionally well down here."
