‘I’ve watched him enough for Rangers over the years’ – Celtic-daft John Higgins calls out Ally McCoist on snooker debut

JOHN HIGGINS couldn't resist cutting Ally McCoist down to size as the Rangers hero made his snooker commentating debut at the Crucible Theatre.
The next phase of the Ibrox icon's plans for world domination saw him trying his hand from the TNT Sports commentary booth from the World Snooker Championships which are under way in Sheffield.
In truth, it was closer to a four-way discussion with co-commentator Darren Fletcher and fellow pundit Alan McManus while John Higgins then Ronnie O'Sullivan were competitors in this year's event who took their turn of being interviewed.
It was all good knockabout stuff between McCoist and Higgins who clearly know each other well.
But the four-time world snooker champ couldn't resist a quip in McCoist's direction when it was revealed that both he and Fletcher had attempted Dennis Taylor's famous black ball when they arrived at the Crucible.
Fletcher said: "We both had a go at Dennis's winning black, and would it surprise you at all to know that Ally ..."
Before he could finish, Higgins interjected: "Fluked it!?"
"I've watched him enough at Rangers over the years!"
Cue much hilarity - as it was revealed that both McCoist and Fletcher indeed both made the famous pot.
McCoist said: "We both got it, the worrying thing is we used Jimmy [White's] cue. I couldn't believe how light his quie was."
In another exchange, Higgins asked McCoist: "I’ve just seen reports that [Daniel] Levy is trying to get Brendan Rodgers to go to Tottenham Hotspur – is there any truth in that rumour?"
McCoist replied: "John, I’ll be honest with you mate, I’m trying to get him to go anywhere," he replied.
"I don’t care, he can go to Tottenham Hotspur, I just want him south. Is that okay? Just to clarify that in case you thought I was anti-Tottenham – I’m pro-Tottenham. I want him anywhere."
The Ranges hero also threw his weight behind the name of Sean Dyche as Rangers boss.
The ex-Everton boss has previously worked closely with new Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell.
He said: "I think Barry has done fine but I don't think he'll get it, I really don't. I think the guys who have come in [Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers] will want their own man.
"I wouldn't be averse to Sean Dyche. I really wouldn't. We as a club have got a lot of work to do, it's not going to be an overnight fix.
"You boys are a wee bit ahead, more consistent I mean, because I know we cuffed you in the last game at Celtic Park!"
