Crystal Palace send three-word message to Liverpool after doing Reds title favour

Liverpool are on the brink of winning the Premier League title after Arsenal dropped more points on Wednesday, drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace despite taking the lead twice

Crystal Palace sent Liverpool a three-word message on social media after doing the Reds a big favour in the Premier League title race. Palace drew 2-2 away to Arsenal on Wednesday, coming from behind twice against the Gunners.

The result means that Liverpool now need just one point from their last five games to be crowned champions. Arne Slot's side play Tottenham at home on Sunday and a draw will be enough to secure the club's 20th English title, moving them level with arch enemies Manchester United.

Liverpool's players had gathered to watch Arsenal's clash with Palace and were ready to celebrate as a group if history repeated itself. In 2020, when matches were played behind closed doors, the Reds won the title after Chelsea beat Manchester City in midweek.

Some fans, however, wanted Liverpool to control their own destiny and secure the title after a match of their own. They'll now have the chance to do that, as Arsenal don't play this weekend and the Reds won't even need to win.

Palace appeared to acknowledge that when posting on X, formerly Twitter, after earning Wednesday's hard-fought draw. "You're welcome Liverpool...," the club said in a post which has already received more than 86,000 likes.

Palace coming back means that Arsenal have won just one of their last four league games. There's now a 12-point gap to Liverpool, so the only way in which Mikel Arteta's men would lift the trophy would be on goal difference, as they only have four league games left to play.

Arteta admitted that his team 'dropped the standards' against Palace, with their season hinging on a Champions League semi-final tie with Paris Saint-Germain. The first leg takes place at the Emirates on Tuesday.

The Gunners took an early lead inside three minutes, as Jakub Kiwior headed home a Martin Odegaard free-kick. Palace drew level through Eberechi Eze's strike before Leandro Trossard restored Arsenal's lead before half-time.

Just as the hosts looked on course for victory in the 83rd minute, William Saliba gifted Palace an opportunity and Jean-Philippe Mateta made him pay. "We are disappointed with the result and performance," Arteta told Sky Sports post-match.

"We didn't find enough consistency in actions to dominate the game. It's part of football and cost us two points. It can be difficult. In many aspects of the game we should have done better today. We require the consistency. Today they were very organised and deserved credit. We have to do much better."

Meanwhile, Palace boss Oliver Glasner was delighted. "I'm really proud of the players and how they performed today," Glasner hailed. "Also, being 1-0 down – and in the last two away games we conceded 10 goals – and then playing here at Emirates against an Arsenal side who are in great shape, it's a tricky situation."

"But the reaction was great – it was unbelievable to be honest. We didn't lose anything of our courage, we didn't lose anything of our belief, and then we played forward. I think it was a really well-deserved draw, coming back twice."
