Bournemouth took the lead through Antoine Semenyo as he slammed home in the first half and both teams had big chances. Evanilson was then sent off with just over 20 minutes of normal time to go and United eventually broke through with Rasmus Hojlund prodding home in the 96th minute to grab a point.
MORE — Ruben Amorim reaction
With the draw Bournemouth sit in 10th place and have 50 points, while Manchester United move up to 14th place on 39 points.
Hojlund gets morale-boosting goal
It’s hardly time to call him red-hot Rasmus, but the way Hojlund screamed in delight and Hulked out when he scored a 96th minute equalizer at Bournemouth proved how big of a moment it was. Yes, it grabbed United a point late on but it was more about what the goal meant ahead of a huge week for Hojlund and United. The Dane has toiled away for months but has scored just three goals in 28 Premier League appearances, working so hard outside the box but so often looking devoid of confidence in it. This goal was his fourth of the Premier League season and despite all of their issues United create plenty of chances each game but just haven’t been clinical enough. Ruben Amorim will be hoping this goal gives Hojlund the confidence boost he needs to go on a run in the Europa League against Athletic Bilbao and beyond. Grabbing a point late on was a bit of a bonus at Bournemouth but the bigger bonus is Hojlund’s confidence levels getting a much-needed boost.

Bruno Fernandes so close to an equalizer
United peppering the Bournemouth goal with efforts and then it falls to Bruno Fernandes who curls a beauty towards the top corner but it flies just wide.

Great movement from Obi and he is in and smashes a shot at the near post, but Kepa pushes it wide.
Senesi blocks Mount’s shot
Dorgu does well down the left and pulls it back for Mount. He settles it and his shot is destined for the bottom corner, but Senesi blocks superbly.
Obi goes close
Just seconds after coming on as a sub a cross from the left finds teenager Chido Obi but he can’t finish. Great chance for United to equalize.
Evanilson is sent off after a VAR review
Bournemouth striker Evanilson slips as he lunges into a challenge but his foot is high and catches Mazraoui high on the ankle. His yellow card is upgraded to a red card and Evanilson is off. Bournemouth are down to 10 for the final 20 minutes. That is a big blow for Bournemouth and their hopes of European qualification.
Ouattara hits the post and United somehow clear
That is outrageous from Ouattara as he whips a free kick from a tight angle off the post. He caught Onana out from an unreal angle. United then clear Zabarnyi’s rebound for a corner which comes to nothing.
Semenyo whips one just wide!
Brilliant start to the second half from Bournemouth and the ball is cut back to that man Semenyo and he whips it just wide of the far post.
Half time: Bournemouth 1-0 Manchester United
The Cherries lead at the break and they’ve done exactly what they needed to do. They’ve pressed United high and made them uncomfortable. United have improved closer to half time with Garnacho going close twice but they are still way off it.
Kepa denies Garnacho!
One long ball over the top finds Garnacho and he’s in. The United forward tries to flick it over Kepa but the Bournemouth goalkeeper gets a hand on it to push it wide. Zabarnyi and Kepa not on the same page at all there but Kepa comes up with a huge stop.
Semenyo slams home! — Bournemouth 1-0 Manchester United
United caught out playing out form the back and Bournemouth win it back high. Evanilson with a clever flick and Semenyo is unmarked to slam home. Textbook Bournemouth. Textbook United.
Tyler Adams tackle checked by VAR
USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams flies in and is booked for a tackle on Garnacho. VAR checks for a possible red card but it stays as a yellow.
Garnacho fires inches wide
United have settled down after a slow start and Alejandro Garnacho almost has them ahead. He is given too much time in the box and the young Argentine drills a low shot inches wide of the far post.
First chance of the game as Evanilson almost flicks home
Dango Ouattara whips in a superb cross from the left and Evanilson stretches but can’t quite get on the end of it. Any contact from Evanilson and that was surely a goal. United have yet to get going and Bournemouth have started really well.

Manchester United lineup

Bournemouth team news, focus
Injuries have calmed down for Bournemouth and having the chance to field what is almost their first-choice side has shown how tough they are to play against in recent weeks. USMNT midfielder. Tyler Adams has been superb in midfield, while Semenyo, Kluivert and Evanilson are getting going again as a trio with Kluivert’s return from injury at a key moment in the season a big boost. Big clubs are circling for Kerkez, Semenyo, Kluivert and Huijsen and it will be intriguing summer to see how the Cherries try to stop others, erm, cherry-picking, their best talents.
OUT: Luis Sinisterra (hamstring), Ryan Christie (groin), Enes Unal (knee) | QUESTIONABLE: Lewis Cook (knock)
Manchester United team news, focus
United are all about the Europa League but Amorim will probably give plenty of key players a start to warm them up for the trip to Spain. Expect to see Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte all play for 60 minutes. Up top poor old Rasmus Hojlund needs a break and a ball to fly in off his backside. He continues to work so hard but is badly lacking in confidence in front of goal.
OUT: Joshua Zirkzee (thigh - MORE), Matthijs de Ligt (ankle), Ayden Heaven (leg - MORE), Amad Diallo (ankle - out for season), Lisandro Martinez (torn ACL - MORE), Toby Collyer (knock)
Bournemouth vs Manchester United prediction
This feels like the Cherries will feast early and their intensity will be too much for a United side focused on the Europa League. Bournemouth 3-1 Manchester United.
Bournemouth vs Manchester United preview
Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth have hit a tough spell at the wrong time of the season, winning just one of their last eight games. They are three games unbeaten and have kept two shutouts in a row (0-0 at Crystal Palace and a 1-0 home win against Fulham), so they have regained their defensively solidity and are now relying on the likes of Semenyo, Evanilson and Kluivert to hit top form once more. Bournemouth currently sit in eighth and if they finish there it is very likely they will compete in Europe for the first time in club history.
Manchester United’s full focus is on their Europa League semifinal first leg at Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, as Ruben Amorim continues to give youngsters a chance in the Premier League. After losing 1-0 at home to Wolves last weekend United are basically guaranteed to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table for the first time in history, which is truly shocking. Huge changes are coming this summer whether or not they win the Europa League to save their dismal campaign.
