Chambers: Everyone must take responsibility
Calum Chambers has said everyone at the club must take accountability for this season's failings.
The defender insisted that full focus is on the final two games of the season with Cardiff’s Championship status hanging by a thread. Cardiff host West Brom this Saturday and anything less than a win will leave them with an almighty task on the final day.
But while fingers have been pointed at the owner, the board, Omer Riza, Erol Bulut, the recruitment and, of course, the players, Chambers has said everyone must share the burden as the club fight for their lives in their final two fixtures. Chambers said: “There’s things that haven’t gone right for us throughout the season. There’s not one thing you can say it’s down to, it’s a collective of things.
“Everyone needs to take accountability for that, I think we’re all aware of where we are, so no one needs telling in the dressing room or around the club, we’re just doing everything we can to get it right.
“I’ve got every belief in this team. It’s unfortunate we’re in the situation we’re in, so now it’s down to us to put it right."
Chambers, who also played alongside manager Ramsey at Arsenal, was full of praise for the 34-year-old in his first management role.
“He’s been class. It’s very clear what he wants from us, in his messages and the amount of detail he got into us before the game, in such little time," he added.
“We all really want to do it for him as well.”
Robinson and El Ghazi ruled out
Cardiff will go into their match against West Brom without top scorer Callum Robinson and Anwar El Ghazi.
Robinson has struggled with an Achilles injury all campaign, but has still managed to notch an impressive 12 goals for the club. Cardiff are fortunate that January signing Yousef Salech has stepped up so capably in his absence, netting seven times since his winter arrival.
But Cardiff will have to overcome West Brom in their massive game in the context of the battle against the drop without their top scorer and former Baggies man Robinson.
"Not for this week," Ramsey said of Robinson, "but hopefully we will have him for the last week."
El Ghazi has featured just once in the Bluebirds' last nine matches and has proved a frustrating signing for the club. He could even be out for the remaining two matches, too, with a back injury.
"He had a little bit of a back issue. I think he's been trying to overcome that for the last few weeks, but we'll see," Ramsey added. "He hasn't trained."
Ramsey: We'll give West Brom something to worry about
Ramsey admits West Brom will pose a real threat to the Bluebirds this weekend - but the interim Cardiff boss insists that the Baggies will have something to worry about themselves.
After parting company with Tony Mowbray, they have tasked James Morrison to take up a similar role to Ramsey at The Hawthorns. His first task will be to try and relegate Cardiff this weekend, and Ramsey expects a tough game.
"They're a good team," Ramsey said of West Brom. "They have a bit of experience in there at this level, and some players who are more than capable of playing.
"So I'm expecting for them to want to play and to try and play between the lines. We expect them to be quite aggressive as well in the press.
"We've seen a bit of them. They have some real threats across the pitch, but hopefully we can best prepare the players to deal with that and to implement what we want to as well. They will have something to worry about from us." Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.
