Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim refuses to be drawn on suggestions that his team are actively working on a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has refused to be drawn on suggestions that his team are actively working on a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for Wolves during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 16 goals and registering four assists in 31 appearances in all competitions, including 14 goals and four assists in 28 Premier League matches.

Cunha is believed to be Man United's leading target for the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils expected to meet with Wolves next week in the hope of getting a deal in place before the market opens.

There is a £62.5m release clause in the Brazil international's contract, and Man United are believed to be willing to activate it with staggered payments.

Amorim was questioned on the interest during his press conference to preview Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth, but the Portuguese was not prepared to discuss a potential move for the attacker.

"I could say this is a conversation for the end of the season but I have an idea that is clear because we need to do things early," Amorim told reporters when asked about the Brazilian.

"I will not say anything about Matheus because if I say one time I will have to comment on every situation. I am focused on this season and even in the next few games could change our plan for next season."

Amorim is believed to view Cunha as the perfect player to operate as a number 10 in his 3-4-3 formation, with the Brazilian having the pace and power that Man United have lacked in forward areas this term.

The Red Devils are also expected to move for Ipswich Town's Liam Delap this summer, with the striker set to have a £30m release clause in his contract once his club are officially relegated from the Premier League.

Amorim has also insisted that his club still have a pull in the transfer market despite their struggles.

Amorim confident Man United can compete in transfer market

"It's Manchester United. What I feel is there are a lot of players that want to play for our club, if you look at our club in the moment with all the problems, changing coach, it looks a little bit of a problem but we have a clear idea and that's the easiest part to explain for a player. It's Manchester United and every player wants to play for Manchester United," he said.

"We have to win every game and every game is important. We have to put our standards, even without winning, really high. I feel the board understand the context and what we want to do. Our idea is really clear.

"I am critical because we are not winning games and we are Manchester United and near the bottom."

Man United will continue their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon before heading to Spain next week for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final with Athletic Bilbao.

The Red Devils are currently down in 14th spot in the Premier League table and have already had their worst-ever season in the competition in terms of a points return.
