Walsall missed a golden chance to ascend back into the League Two automatic promotion spots, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Accrington Stanley at Bescot.

The game's solitary goal was netted by Ben Woods with an impressive volley from the edge of the penalty area in the 33rd minute, ensuring League Two safety for the visiting team.

Walsall, who haven't tasted victory in their last 13 games, saw Taylor Allen and Albert Adomah hit the post within the first 15 minutes, while George Hall also sent a header wide.

Accrington's defender Devon Matthews fired a powerful volley off target, and Tommy Simkin made a superb fingertip save to deny Liam Coyle from long range after the interval.

Walsall's wing-back Connor Barrett received a straight red card for a high tackle on Coyle shortly after being brought on as a substitute.
