Wrexham stars erupt into wild beer shower party after flare-wielding fans storm pitch
Wrexham players didn't waste anytime celebrating their historic promotion to the Championship from League One. They transformed their changing room into a crazy beer shower - and even boss Phil Parkinson got involved
Wrexham stars drenched themselves with a massive beer shower party after nailing their historic promotion – and it proved to be anything but tame.
Hollywood megastar Ryan Reynold's club managed to jump up the ranks from League One to the Championship after thrashing Charlton Athletic 3-0.
The lads didn't waste any time to pay boozy homage to their efforts, mainly owed to Oliver Rathbone and Sam Smith with their quickfire 15th and 18th minute goals, and a 81st minute strike from Smith to seal the deal.
Videos have now emerged from the Racecourse Ground changing room where Wrexham players erupted when boss Phil Parkinson entered, they greeted him with a foamy beer shower.
Players – with soaked through shirts – jumped up and down as they chucked their drinks in the air, chanting as they celebrated their stunning victory.
"Not a dry eye in the house, not a dry shirt either," a Sky Sports commentator said. "Phil Parkinson in the Wrexham dressing room, being gatoraded or something like that."
Both club owners, Ryan Reynold's and Rob McElhenney, were in attendance for the game yesterday (Saturday 26) to witness the victory in the penultimate game of the season along with 12,774 fans that watched the Red Dragons guarantee a second-placed finish to bring about promotion.
The Deadpool star had served drinks to Wrexham fans in the club's fanzone ahead of the game. He also downed a beer from behind the bar and didn't hesitate to take selfies with match-goers.
With their well-endowed pockets, Reynolds and McElhenney have been able to pull Wrexham from non-league to the third tier in consecutive seasons since they took over in 2021. Fans of the Red Dragons have seen the transformation of their beloved club in real-time.
And to continue on their good fortune, Wrexham's latest promotion could be worth as much as £12m to the club.
Earlier this week at the TIME100 Summit, Reynolds jokingly credited the strain of a potential third consecutive promotion with causing him a stomach ulcer
.
He said: "I have, literally, like an eight-inch ulcer in my stomach right now because it's the end of the season. It all comes down to the next two weeks.
"They just can't do it easy, like just one year let's do it without having receding hairlines all around. We're all losing it. Stress [is] killing us."
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the win, over on X, formerly Twitter, one said: "Simply an amazing story, through and through. That town must be an amazing place to be tonight."
Another wrote: "History makers! Wrexham is on fire."
