CAMERON CARTER-VICKERS has insisted Celtic have already emphatically proved they’re better than Rangers no matter what happens at Ibrox next Sunday.

The Hoops have stunningly lost the last two derbies home and away - and within the champions’ dressing room there’s serious motivation to turn that round.

But bulwark defender Carter-Vickers - celebrating his fourth successive Premiership medal - made it clear he doesn’t go for the suggestion it’s about putting things right in terms of superiority.

Other than pride for the players and supporters, the inspirational 27-year-old says they have nothing to prove in Govan.

The weekend’s events left Celtic a massive 17 points and 47 goals ahead of their bitter rivals who were poor once more in a 2-2 draw against St Mirren, with still four league games to play.

Carter-Vickers and his team-mates are enjoying some well earned time-off granted by boss Brendan Rodgers in the aftermath of clinching a 55th title in the 5-0 thumping of Dundee United.

And asked how big Ibrox is, and of possibly setting the record straight, the stopper said: "Of course we want to win

"We want to win every game we play, and that’s no different for who it is - we want to win the game.

"We’ll have a couple of days where we can celebrate winning the league and then our full focus will be on that game and trying to win it.

"Some people might say set the record... I wouldn’t personally use that kind of language because, for me, it’s not just like one or two games in the season but the whole 38.

"And I think we’ve shown over the 38 games that WE are the best team.

"But yes, we definitely want to win the game next weekend and put in a strong performance because, at the end of the day, we know it’s something that the fans care about and we care about also."

Meanwhile, £11million record signing Arne Engels savoured the first title of his fast developing career after arriving from Augsburg at the start of the season.

The 21-year-old has come under a lot of scrutiny because of the size of the fee.

But the Belgium international is finishing the season strongly - with the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen on May 24, and the added incentive of a Treble, still ahead.

Engels, superb at Tannadice, told Celtic TV: "It’s an amazing feeling, it’s also my first time.

"Everybody deserved it really well this season.

"We worked really hard and there are still some games to play, but now I think we still need to celebrate and enjoy this.

"We worked really hard every day, everybody has been putting in the work and there’s still one trophy to go for.

"I think everybody is now with his mindset there.

"There are still a lot of weeks to go until the final, we still need to prepare and be ready for it."
