Eric Dier will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season after rejecting the opportunity to stay at the German club.

According their sporting director Christoph Freund, Bayern were open to extending the stay of the England defender.

However, having arrived at the Allianz Arena in January 2024, the former Tottenham man has decided to leave once his contract expires this year.

'We had discussions with Eric about a new contract,' said Freund.

'He told us that he doesn't want to extend and will leave us.

'He's a great guy. We had a great time together. Hopefully he crowns his time with us with his first title.'

Reports indicate that Eric Dier is in advanced discussions with Ligue 1 club Monaco

According to the BBC, Dier is in talks with French club Monaco, in what would be a surprise move given the Ligue 1 side's relative lack of prowess compared to Bayern.

Reports indicate that the Ligue 1 side is open to a three-year deal with the option to extend by an additional 12 months.

Dier has made 45 appearances for Bayern since initially joining them on loan midway through last season.

He went on to extend his stay that summer, remaining a part of Bayern's ongoing title charge.

The club, managed by former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, can secure the Bundesliga crown by beating RB Leipzig this weekend.

Any league medal would be the first piece of silverware won by Dier in his professional career.

Dier, who has 49 international caps, last played for England in December 2022.
