Brentford held on to secure a thrilling 4-3 Premier League win over Manchester United on Sunday to continue their late European push.
Mason Mount fired the Red Devils ahead from eight yards out in the 14th minute, scoring his first United goal since March 2024, after a superb low ball in from Alejandro Garnacho on the left.
Luke Shaw, who was named as United captain, then scored an own goal before Kevin Schade rose at the far post to head beyond Altay Bayindir.
Schade scored his second goal of the match – another header – to make it 3-1 with Bryan Mbeumo providing the assist and Yoane Wissa netting for the 18th time this season in the top-flight to put the Bees in firm control.
Garnacho reduced Brentford’s lead with eight minutes to play – a screamer from distance which gave Mark Flekken little chance – and Amad Diallo netted in the 95th minute to leave the home fans incredibly nervous.
It ended up being too late for United, though, as Brentford held on to clinch three points in a seven-goal thriller. The result means Thomas Frank’s side are ninth in the Premier League table, just one point behind Bournemouth.

Brentford 4-3 Man Utd highlights
Here’s all the goals for you…
‘A fascinating game of football’

Former Southampton defender Francis Benali has just shared his thoughts on the match.
Watching the clash for BBC Radio Sports Extra, he said: ‘A fascinating game of football.
‘United looked dead and buried at one point, but they stuck in there with a number of changes.
‘They got themselves back into it, but Brentford just doing enough to get them over the line.
‘A big three points for them.’
How does the Premier League table look?
It’s a really big win for Brentford – who are dreaming of European qualification this season.
United are so far down that you can’t actually see them from this screenshot – but they’re 15th – behind Everton on goal difference. What a horrific season for the Red Devils in the Premier League.

FULL TIME: Brentford 4-3 Man Utd
A very nervous finish for Brentford – who had a 4-1 lead – but they’ve held on for a massive three points in the race for Europe.
GOAL! Brentford 4-3 Man Utd
DIALLO!
Oh my word… this could be an incredible comeback. Diallo reduces Brentford’s lead to one goal in the 95th minute.
You could hear a pin drop among the home fans here.
Seven minutes added on
Seven minutes of added time to play… they couldn’t, could they?
Brentford still leading 4-2 in west London.
GOAL! Brentford 4-2 Man Utd
Garnacho!
What a finish that is. It won’t really count for much but the United fans have something to cheer about at least. Eriksen with the assist.
Brentford’s three-goal lead is reduced to two with 82 minutes on the clock.
Brentford make three changes
Less than 10 minutes of normal time to go.
Brentford have made a triple change. Thiago, Gustavo Nunes and Ajer come on. They replace Damsgaard, Lewis-Potter and Kayode.
Lindelof comes on
Fourth substitution for United. Lindelof comes on for Fredricson.
‘United have been poor’
‘I know this is not their full-strength team but United have been poor,’ Clinton Morrison just said on Sky Sports.
‘This was an opportunity for other players to step up.’
He’s not wrong… Brentford have been dominant.
GOAL! Brentford 4-1 Man Utd

WISSA!
It’s getting a bit embarrassing for United now… Wissa gets his 18th Premier League goal of the season.
VAR checked it for two possible offsides but it’s allowed to stand.
It’s 4-1 with 74 minutes played. Game over.
Schade goes off
That was a bit weird. Schade has just scored – he’s on for a hat-trick – but he’s bring brought off just moments later. Henry replaces him.
GOAL! Brentford 3-1 Man Utd
SCHADE!
Another header from the Brentford man – he makes it 3-1 to the home side with 70 minutes on the clock.
Mbeumo put it on a plate for him with a fine cross.
Jensen comes on
Brentford are taking off Yarmoliuk. Jensen takes his spot in the Bees’ XI.
Brentford still leading 2-1 in the 68th minute here. It’s been fairly even in the second half thus far.
Chance for Wissa!
Offt – Wissa is inches away from getting on the end of Collins’ flicked header from a long throw. He can’t quite get there – that would’ve been game, set and match.
Chance for Obi!
Chance for the United teenager on his first senior start… Norgaard gets a block in to stop his shot.
Eriksen coming on and faces boos
Mount is heading off… He’s replaced by Eriksen.
Brentford fans are booing their former player Eriksen here – seems a bit harsh?
Garnacho booked
Second yellow card of the match… it’s another United player.
Garnacho is booked – it’s not 100 per cent clear why – but it appears to be for something he said to referee Anthony Taylor. The Argentine was left unhappy at his decision to award Brentford a free-kick.
Mount shoots!
Some nice combinations between Garnacho and Mount today it must be said.
The Englishman just had two half-chances there in quick succession but the second shot is straight at Flekken.
