Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount admitted it felt "good" to score his first goal since recovering from injury.

Mount impressed Ruben Amorim quickly after his appointment from Sporting Lisbon, but he picked up an injury in December, almost immediately after earning a starting role in the team.

The 26-year-old looked crestfallen when he sustained a muscle injury against Manchester City in the Manchester derby and he was sidelined until mid-March. Mount has been limited to substitute appearances since returning to the squad, but he made his first start of 2025 against Brentford on Sunday.

Mount opened the scoring with a smart first-time finish at the Gtech Community Stadium and he admitted he was happy to get on the scoresheet after a challenging season with a few injuries.

"Tough to take [the defeat], I actually thought we started the game well," Mount told MUTV. "We spoke before the game about the first five or 10 minutes, saying we needed to start aggressively because we know they're going to put pressure on us with long balls and throw-ins.

"We spoke about that, so we know it was coming. I was proud of the lads for the way we started, aggression, creating a few chances and getting the first goal was important for us.

"It was just a few details here and there that we should have been ready for because we know it was coming. That's something we can learn from."

Mount was asked about his goal and said: "It was good. Obviously, I've been biding my time, working on my minutes for the last few months, so to come and start the game today was a big moment for me.

"Getting on the scoresheet was important, so I'm happy with that. It's been a long time, so a proud moment for me. But as a team, we wanted to win the game coming here and we can take a little from the end, trying to fight back to get the win or draw, but it's little details here and there."

Mount's pressing ability was relied upon by Erik ten Hag in the opening fixtures of the campaign and he was a key cog in the team's tweaked pressing structure in attack.

Amorim has gone on record to say that he "loves" Mount because of how much he "wants it".
