The Premier League coach has been installed as the new favourite to take over
Bournemouth assistant coach Tommy Elphick has been installed as the new bookies' favourite to take over at Cardiff City.
The Bluebirds are set to be on the search for a new head coach this summer following the dismissal of Omer Riza, with midfielder Aaron Ramsey taking interim charge of the final three games of the season.
Ramsey was, however, unable to prevent Cardiff sliding into the third tier of English football for the first time in 22 years, and it remains to be seen what direction the club will go in for the upcoming League One campaign. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community.
According to BetVictor, current Cherries coach Elphick is now leading the list of favourites to take over, coming in at odds of 2/1. Elphick had previously cut his teeth coaching in Bournemouth's development squad, before being promoted to assistant coach in the senior set-up on an interim basis following the sacking of Scott Parker in August 2022.
His position in the senior squad was made permanent on the back of Gary O'Neil's appointment as head coach in the December, and he has since stayed on to work with current boss Andoni Iraola.
Other candidates believed to be in the frame include former Oxford United boss Des Buckingham (4/1), who already has a promotion to the Championship to his name after guiding the U's to success via the play-offs in 2024, as well as Ramsey (5/1) and current Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones (8/1).
Steven Gerrard and Rob Edwards are priced up at 12/1, while Neil Warnock and O'Neil are in at 16/1. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here
