Chelsea 'submit' Dean Huijsen bid as Jadon Sancho transfer verdict given
Chelsea are looking to make a splash in the summer transfer window before they jet off to the Club World Cup in the USA
Chelsea's Premier League season is firmly in the home stretch but their campaign has been extended by the controversial Club World Cup in the United States.
The Blues know that if they do go all the way, they will have just one month to rest before the Premier League begins again. As such, the time for doing transfer business is limited and rumours are already swirling about players that they could add to their team.
In our latest look at the media headlines involving the Blues, football.london analyse the updates surrounding AFC Bournemouth's Dean Huijsen and Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho.
Huijsen bid submitted
According to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Chelsea are leading the way in the Premier League to sign AFC Bournemouth defender Huijsen. It is claimed a bid has already been submitted by the Blues for the centre-back and that Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool have followed suit.
However, they also claim that the player prefers a move to Real Madrid and has instructed a legal team in the Spanish capital to negotiate with the LaLiga giants.
What FL says: There is no doubt that Huijsen would be a brilliant addition to this Chelsea defence. At 20, he already looks so at home in the Premier League and is ready for the next step up. The concern is that Real are a big draw for many players, especially ones who hail from Spain. If a move to the Bernabeu is on the table, it is difficult to see how Chelsea are able to beat that without splashing huge money at the centre-back. That is, of course, an option for the Blues but it is not viable for the club's long-term future.
Sancho verdict given
Former Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda has warned his old club not to buy Sancho at the end of this season. He told Racing Tipster that he did not see what he expected from the forward at Stamford Bridge.
He also insisted that it would not be a good thing if Sancho joined permanently.
What FL says: Chelsea could sign Sancho for £25m or they could pay a penalty of £5m not to sign him. It looks clear that paying £5m may not be the worst decision. The Premier League seems to have never suited Sancho and whether that's due to his style of play or the added pressure that you get at clubs like United and Chelsea, I am not sure. But this loan spell has not exactly shown Sancho at his best so Malouda's assessment is likely to be one shared with many other supporters of the club.
