Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool ahead against Brighton at half-time, but no one is believing he meant it.

The midfielder gave Arne Slot's side a 2-1 lead at half-time as his mishit cross looped over Bart Verbruggen's head and dropped into the far corner of the net in added time.

Liverpool took the lead through Harvey Elliott's opening goal after brilliant work from Conor Bradley. Before Brighton deservedly equalised with a tidy finish from Yasin Ayari.

But there was nothing tidy about Liverpool's go-ahead goal as Szoboszlai picked his head up and looked towards runners at the far post as he received the ball wide in the Brighton box following a quick Liverpool free-kick routine.

The Hungarian whipped a ball towards the far post, but luckily for the Reds, he shanked his cross, seeing the ball actually drop over a helpless Verbruggen and into the back of the net to reestablish the visitors' lead.

Szoboszlai's celebration served as an obvious admission of his fortune, as he gave a delayed and subdued reaction. The midfielder slowly raised his arms and turned to his team-mates, sporting a sheepish grin on his face.

It proved to be a very happy accident for the Hungarian, as he celebrated by putting the ball under his shirt and sucking his thumb, seemingly announcing that he and his wife are expecting a baby.

Fans took to social media to give their verdict on the goal, and all were pretty unanimous. One user said: "Szoboszlai scores a total fluke." A second added: "Liverpools second goal absolute fluke, it was a cross gone wrong?"

But Brighton pulled off a brilliant comeback after Mo Salah missed an open goal and the chance to kill the game. Kaoru Mitoma equalised with 20 minutes left before Jack Hinshelwood won the game with five minutes to play after VAR overturned the on-field decision of offside.
