Newcastle United are stepping up their hunt for new signings with the transfer window swinging open in less than two weeks. The new format of the window means clubs can sign players from June 1 this year, although it does then close again while the Club World Cup is on.

However, it offers the Magpies a chance to make early inroads. Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell have funds available to invest in the coming months, and will get their first chance in the mini-window from June 1 until June 10.

Newcastle have four areas they wish to target. A right-sided forward has been a long-term ambition, while they will need striking cover for Alexander Isak. A centre-back is also high on the list, while Newcastle have been linked with a string of goalkeepers.

James Trafford, Marc Guehi, Liam Delap and Bryan Mbeumo head the wishlist but Newcastle are monitoring a host of other players. There could be some movement in midfield as well, with Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock's futures uncertain. That has seen Newcastle keep tabs on a few midfielders too, including Genk powerhouse Ibrahima Sory Bangoura.

There will undoubtedly be some exits from St James' Park this summer as United look to maximise any profit for long-term PSR and FFP issues. We'll have all the latest news, gossip and rumours right here.

Replica range

The replica kit range - the ones the fans buy, not worn by the players - will feature adidas' AEROREADY technology.

Beskpoke Womens range

United will launch a 'Howay the Lasses' range in time for the start of the new WSL 2 season.

This new collection, featuring a ‘Howay the Lasses’ sign-off, is a celebration of our commitment to the women’s game and to every supporter who wears the badge with pride. It’s another big step in making sure all fans – no matter who they are – feel represented in black and white.

Club statement

Here's what NUFC chief commcercial officer Peter Silverstone had to say:

“This season’s kit launch is about more than just what our players wear on the pitch – it’s about supporting our community. Building on our home kit foundation donation initiative of last year, this year, for every adult home, away and third shirt sold through official club channels before the end of August we’ll be donating £5 to the Newcastle United Foundation. It’s a way for supporters to not only wear the badge, and the beautiful new kits with pride, but to directly contribute to the life-changing work the Foundation does across the region. Together, we’re making a difference – on and off the pitch.”

The new design

It's a 'shepherd's check' don't you know??? Here's what the official release says.

This season’s shirt draws inspiration from a classic northern motif – the shepherd’s check – blending it seamlessly with our historic vertical stripes to create something fresh, and undeniably Newcastle.

Black shorts and socks complete the kit, featuring the iconic adidas three-stripes and a clean white NUFC finish. A full-colour club crest sits proudly on the chest, with ‘Howay the Lads’ on the back of the neck – a call to arms that means everything in the stands, the streets, and on the pitch.

Where can I buy the new kit?

The new home kit will be available at the club's official online shop and all official club retail stores; St James’ Park, Metro Centre and Fenwick Newcastle.

It goes on sale at 9am on Thursday, May 29.

Charity donation

Newcastle United will donate £5* from every adult home, away, third, and goalkeeper shirt sold via official channels before the end of August to the Newcastle United Foundation. The funds will directly benefit grassroots and social impact initiatives across the North East.

Should Newcastle United sign Abdoulaye Doucouré

Abdoulaye Doucouré will leave Everton on a free following Sunday's clash with Newcastle United.

Andrew Musgrove asks whether Doucouré could be a short-term signing for United.

New Dutch star link

Newcastle are watching young Dutch defender Jorrel Hato according to the i paper. They report that United could make a move for the 19-year-old Ajax youngster, who is very much seen as one for the future.

Hato has played 50 times for the Dutch giants this season, scoring three times and adding six assists. He can play at centre-back but has often been used at left-back

New Thiaw links

Newcastle have again been linked with a move for AC Milan central defender Malick Thiaw, with reports suggesting United are one of several clubs to have contacted the Italian side over a potential move.

The Magpies are in the market for a defender and were linked with Thiaw last summer, but focused on Marc Guehi.

Shelvey future

Former Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is on the lookout for a new club after being released by Burnley. He joined Scott Parker's Clarets midway through the season, but will not be part of their Premier League squad.

Merson's prediction

Newcastle will continue to challenge for European places next season . . . but a title challenge will be beyond Eddie Howe's men in 2026, according to ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson.

Looking ahead to next term on Sky Sports, Merson said:

“There are three teams that can win the Premier League next season - Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City. They will be the three teams and I do not see anyone else challenging. Aston Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle will be challenging for the other places, in my opinion. That is it.”

Sunday referee confirmed

Tony Harrington will take charge of United's vital final-day Premier League clash with Everon at St James' Park on Sunday.

The experienced referee is yet to officiate United this season, but took charge of the same game last season, awarding Everton a penalty in the 1-1 draw after a VAR review.

Stelling quits Pools

Jeff Stelling has resigned as honorary president of Hartlepool United in protest at owner Raj Singh's handling of negotiations to sell the club.

Pools issued a lengthy statement on Wednesday evening in which they said an agreement with one potential buyer had been reached in March, but that proof of funds for next season is yet to be deposited and revealing a plan to poll season-ticket holders over whether or not Singh should resume control.

The move came after local businesswoman Shelley Hammond, who has been linked with a takeover, suggested that a deal was close following an earlier update, and it proved the final straw for minority shareholder and high-profile fan Stelling.

He said in a series of posts on his X account: "Following Raj's latest statement, I have resigned as president of @Official-HUFC. I know this is only an honorary role, but it is the best way I felt I could protest against the treatment of the party trying to take control the club.

"Supporters have been left in an intolerable position with a perceived threat to the future of the club should they not support the current owner. Let's remember it was him who wanted to stop funding the club. Yet now he seems almost affronted that others want to take over. Not once have I been consulted about this even though I am a shareholder. I have not met the would-be buyers, but I do know they have been trying to buy this club for over a year - not the actions of time-wasters.

"I will always love this club and wish all our fans the best."

Singh initially put the club up for sale in the wake of relegation from the Football League at the end of the 2022-23 season and stood down as chairman in March amid fan protests as Pools limped towards an 11th-placed fifth-tier finish.

Premier League interest in Baturina

Newcastle aren't the only Premier League club credited with an interest in Martin Baturina. The Croatia midfielder has also been watched by Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has played 11 times for the national side and is valued at around £21m by Dynamo Zagreb. In the past, French giants PSG were also close to moving for the playmaker.

'Let's see'

Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports at Brentford's end of season awards this week, was quizzed over Bryan Mbeumo's season to date, before offering a less than convincing answer over the possibility of the player staying at the Gtech Stadium beyond the window.

“It’s been a privilege to work with him for six years and see his development from a teenager to a more grown up man in many ways. That personal development is equally as important. Let’s see. We all love him. I watch him every day. He comes in with a big smile. He loves to be a Brentford player, but let’s see.”

Callum Wilson transfer plan

Championship new boys Wrexham should consider a move for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, according to ex-Magpies midfielder Didi Hamann. The Welsh side - owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - are looking for players to lift their squad, and out-of-contract Wilson would be the ideal candidate, according to Hamann.

Callum Wilson would absolutely be a great signing for Wrexham. Newcastle will probably improve their squad for next season and it will be even harder to get game time. For Wrexham, if they want to get promoted into the Premier League they will probably need to have a Premier League level squad given the quality of the teams at the top of the Championship.

So they will be looking at Premier League players and we’ve seen teams do back to back promotions from League One to the Premier League in recent years, Wrexham could be a similar story. A player like Callum Wilson with that experience, he will be able to keep the level up in the Championship and teach the young lads, I could see that signing being a success.

Martin Baturina linked with move

Midfield isn't a position high on Newcastle's transfer priorities this summer but that could all change if they see significant movement in that department. Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock hold the key to that, with any exits likely to necessitate an incoming.

Dinamo Zagreb attacking midfielder Martin Baturina is an attacking midfielder who has been linked with the Magpies in recent days. Reports claim Newcastle and Nottingham Forest have inquired about the Croatian midfielder who has a price tag of around €25 million (£21.1 million).

Grealish latest

Jack Grealish to Newcastle? Not for you, it seems.

Chronicle Live has been running a poll on whether fans would like Newcastle to sign the England star from Man City. Almost 3,000 have replied and here's what they say!

Broja would be an expensive risk

Armando Broja has scored two Premier League goals in three seasons. Yes, you read that right. Two league goals in three seasons. Plus a solitary FA Cup strike.

No wonder Chelsea want to punt him. A price tag of £30m has been mentioned which would be utterly ridiculous.

The Albania international is still just 23 and had a promising career ahead of him, but since his loan spell at Southampton and a boatload of injuries, he's not worth £3m never mind £30m. Any club taking him would be taking a huge risk. Even a loan move comes with costs attached. and a gamble His spell at Everton ended with no goals in just four league starts.

Newcastle offered £30m flop

Early summer decisions on Callum Wilson's next step will be made before Newcastle get to grips with what is essentially a two-tiered window. Business can be done between June 1 and June 10 before a clutch of clubs battling against PSR issues in the run-up to the Premier League's health check deadline are set to influence the window.

And the Magpies have been offered £30m Chelsea flop Armando Broja in what would be a risky ove after his spell at Everton.

Sandro Tonali to Juve twist

Finally, it seems talk of Sandro Tonali moving to Juventus may be put to bed. Newcastle don't want to sel; Juve couldn't afford him even if they did.

According to Il Bianconero, Juventus have woken up to the realisation that they face defeat in any pursuit of Tonali, with the report indicating that the player’s transfer fee would likely be prohibitive. It now appears they have a fresh target to bolster their midfield - Florentino Luis of Benfica.

The player is available for around £26m and has a current salary of about £2.1m, making him a lot more financially viable for the Serie A side. Luis has also been linked with Everton.

Amorim bullish on transfers

Man Utd's failure to secure European football next season could impact their hunt for Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap - particularly the latter - but boss Ruben Amorim insists players just 'want to play for Manchester United' regardless of their struggles. Back in April the Old Trafford boss had this to say:

It's Manchester United. What I feel is there are a lot of players who want to play for our club and I know that if you look at our club in the moment, with all the problems with the staff and people going, changing coach and the results, it looks like a little bit of a problem. But we have a clear idea. That is the easiest part to explain to a player. Then it is Manchester United. Everyone wants to play for Manchester United."

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle scout £18m 'gem'

Chronicle Live understands Newcastle United scouts have cast an eye on Genk midfield star Ibrahima Sory Bangoura this season.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder from Guinea is deemed a potential bargain at around the £18m mark with Newcastle talent spotters taking a long hard look at some of the talents on offer in the low countries in recent months.
