Cristiano Ronaldo's cryptic 'this chapter is over' tweet has people asking what is going on
Cristiano Ronaldo hints at Al Nassr exit after scoring in 3-2 loss, writing “This chapter is over." which has sent fans into a frenzy about where he will end up next
Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped a major hint that his time at Al Nassr may be over, following a dramatic 3-2 loss to Al Fateh on Monday.
The Portuguese star scored what is believed to be the 800th club goal of his career in the first half, but Al Nassr's late collapse cost them a spot in the AFC Champions League. Last week FIFA president Gianni Infantino claimed “discussions” were happening over a move which would allow Ronaldo to feature in the Club World Cup this summer.
After the match, Ronald posted a cryptic tweet, alongside a picture of him in an Al Nassr shirt, he wrote: "This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all."
The tweet has led many fans to speculate where he is going next.
One took to X to write: "Come to Lisbon and leave the shame behind." While another chimed in with : "A dream return to Madrid for the Club World Cup — who says no?"
Some are dreaming of a legends meet up, writing: "Imagine Ronaldo going to inter Miami would be the greatest thing in football, let him and messi play before they retire the two goats in a team, would be heavenly"
A fan asked "the big question now is where best can we farm 64 more goals in the shortest time possible?" As another replied: "That same Saudi league but with a more serious club. Ronaldo even at this age is better than all the 9s in that entire league. Ronaldo himself too dey do Superman, sometimes think of yourself first."
Some more bleak fans speculated that the tweet was actually Ronaldo's retirement announcement.
One person wrote on social media: "Ronaldo needs to retire before he embarrasses himself at a new club."
Another really laid in with: "Ronaldo is not smart. A smart move would've been to retire 2 years ago. The next best time to retire is now. But like I said, Ronaldo is not smart."
Al Nassr failed to qualify for the 32-team tournament and Infantino’s remark in discussion with YouTuber IShowSpeed sparked speculation over Ronaldo’s future, especially as FIFA this year introduced an additional transfer window between June 1 and June 10.
It is designed to allow clubs to register players for the Club World Cup and Ronaldo’s signature could be up for grabs after two-and-a-half-years at Al Nassr.
