Keep, sell or loan - Aston Villa squad assessed ahead of summer transfer window and PSR headaches

The summer transfer window will open for Aston Villa on Sunday, June 1

Aston Villa's recruitment team have been busy planning for the summer transfer window.

Top of the agenda will be raising revenue through player sales before June 30, as is the case for several other Premier League clubs looking to comply with financial regulations.

Last season, Villa generated around £70 million by selling Tim Iroegbunam, Omari Kellyman, Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

While the exact amount Villa need to raise this time remains unclear, the January departures of Jhon Durán, Diego Carlos and Jaden Philogene have already contributed significantly.

Emi Martínez could also leave before the end of next month, while Leon Bailey has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia.

After seeing Villa miss out on Champions League qualification, Monchi and his recruitment team must now plan for a Europa League campaign - a competition Unai Emery won four times during his spells with Sevilla and Villarreal.

On Claret & Blue , Dan Rolinson and John Townley analysed the current squad, discussing which players could be kept, sold or loaned out.

With the transfer window yet to open, much remains uncertain, but the conversation offered insight into what might unfold over the coming weeks.
