Andrew Cavenagh will fly to Europe and take charge of Rangers' hunt for a new manager this week as top target Davide Ancelotti suns himself on a family holiday.

The American health tycoon is the driving force behind the Ibrox takeover by 49ers Enterprises and will meet frontrunners Ancelotti and Russell Martin this week.

Cavenagh is flying across the Atlantic for face-to-face sit downs with the Italian and Martin as he takes a lead role in the appointment of a permanent successor to Philippe Clement, after caretaker Barry Ferguson was relieved of his duties.

Chief executive Patrick Stewart, sporting director Kevin Thelwell and 49ers technical director Gretar Steinsson have been conducting the search and grilled Ferguson before removing him from the process.

But Cavenagh wants to look the contenders in the eye this week and get his new boss in place.

Ancelotti was pictured on holiday as he waits by his phone for details of the meet. His wife Ana Galocha took to Instagram to post images of the former Real Madrid No 2 having fun in the swimming pool with his wife and their twin sons, Lucas and Leonardo.

It comes after his legendary coach dad Carlo revealed his son was in negotiations with a European club as he announced Ancelotti Jnr wouldn't be joining him at Brazil.

Cavenagh, who has amassed a personal fortune building his Philadelphia based health insurance firm ParetoHealth, was in the directors' box at Ibrox for the final home Premiership game of the season against Dundee United earlier this month.

And now Ancelotti and Martin will be given their chance to outline their Rangers vision to the American tycoon.

The Italian son of legendary manager Carlo and ex Scotland defender Martin are the two leading contenders, although former boss Steven Gerrard and Brian Priske aren't completely out of the running.

Ancelotti remains odds-on favourite for the job with the bookies.

Rangers are in a race against time to appoint a boss with the squad due to return to the club's training centre on June 23, and Rangers announcing a pre-season schedule.

But Ancelotti is enjoying some well-earned down time with his family judging by the photos which were uploaded on Wednesday. It comes after his final season as assistant to his dad at Real Madrid.
