England women's player ratings vs Portugal: Aggie Beever-Jones steals the show with first-half hat-trick while Lauren Hemp shines on Lionesses return in huge Nations League win

England cruised to victory against Portugal on Friday night, with a dominant 6-0 result meaning the Lionesses go to Spain next week knowing that a win over the world champions will seal their spot in the Nations League finals. It took less than three minutes for the reigning European champions to break the deadlock at Wembley and that well and truly opened the floodgates, as another four flew in before half-time - including three for Aggie Beever-Jones for her first senior international hat-trick.

Starting in the No.9 role due to a slight niggle for Alessia Russo, it was the Chelsea star who opened the scoring after good high pressure from Jess Park. That was the first of two sharp finishes through on goal that just evaded Portugal goalkeeper Ines Pereira, with a thunderous header sandwiched in-between for a truly memorable night for Beever-Jones.

While it will be the 21-year-old who grabs the headlines, there was plenty more to like about this front-footed performance from the Lionesses, too. Lauren Hemp's return caught the eye, with her first England appearance in seven months seeing her link up well with Jess Carter behind her, including for the second goal, headed in by Lucy Bronze. More centrally, Park did plenty to stake her claim to start as the No.10 at this summer's European Championship, particularly with a superb assist that allowed Beth Mead to make it four.

Tuesday's clash with Spain will be much tougher than this, with Portugal nowhere near the level they were in February when they fought back to claim a point - and early all three - against Sarina Wiegman's side. But there was plenty for the England boss to be encouraged by here, with the scoring rounded off by Chloe Kelly from the bench to complete a very positive night.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Hannah Hampton (6/10):

Was a spectator for the most part. Didn't put a foot wrong but, equally, wasn't called into action.

    Lucy Bronze (7/10):

Her attacking contributions are perfectly highlighted by the fact it was she in the right place at the right time for England's second, in the six-yard box. Brilliant cross for Beever-Jones' header, too.

    Leah Williamson (8/10):

Fantastic ball over the top for Beever-Jones for her third, even if there was a hint of offside on the striker's part. Stayed switched on at the back, too, to not let Portugal in.

    Esme Morgan (7/10):

Didn't have to do much defensive work but mopped up nicely when Portugal did spring a counter. Played some nice passes, too.

    Jess Carter (8/10):

Has often been conservative in the left-back role in the past, owing to it being unnatural to her. Was much more positive and confident there, in a strong showing.

    Midfield

    Keira Walsh (8/10):

Moved the ball around nicely and did some great defensive work. A classy performance.

    Grace Clinton (6/10):

Despite such a dominant attacking performance from the team, she couldn't get involved much. Was accurate on the ball and worked hard - just quiet.

    Jess Park (8/10):

Excelled in the free-roaming role, with her two main contributions able to highlight her quality. First, her high press resulted in a turnover that Beever-Jones scored from, then her superb pass set Mead through to score.

    Attack

    Beth Mead (8/10):

A productive night, with a goal and an assist to show for her hard work and quality in the final third.

    Aggie Beever-Jones (10/10):

Hard to mark her down for anything on a night which returned a hat-trick. Finishing was obviously excellent, but so was her movement, hold-up play and the way she got involved in the build-up.

    Lauren Hemp (8/10):

Absolutely electric in her first England appearance since October. Looked really sharp and was just a constant menace for the Portugal defence.

    Subs & Manager

    Maya Le Tissier (6/10):

The first of three subs brought on before the hour mark. Settled in comfortably to a right-back role she doesn't play often.

    Chloe Kelly (7/10):

Converted a fantastic header with her first real contribution to the game, sending it back across goal for 6-0.

    Alex Greenwood (7/10):

Played a sublime pass to Mead just minutes after coming on, to allow her to cross for Kelly's goal. So unlucky not to score, after hitting the bar with a wonderful free-kick.

    Fran Kirby (6/10):

On for the final 25 minutes but didn't see too much of the ball in dangerous areas.

    Georgia Stanway (N/A):

A vital introduction for the final 15 minutes. This was her first action since December, after knee surgery, and was an encouraging tell of where her fitness is at.

    Sarina Wiegman (8/10):

Made some interesting decision in her team selection in defence but got strong performances from both Morgan and Carter, who are particularly sharp given their seasons in the U.S. are in full swing. Will have been pleased to have been able to get more minutes into the legs of both Hemp and Greenwood, only recently back from injuries, and especially Stanway.
